Al Passo, Offertory and Alliance can set the pace. FANTABULOUS (3) finished strongly from the back of the field when runner-up over 1400m at Hastings and the extra 200m is ideal at this stage of his career. He has a good gate, and can go one better. ALLIANCE (2) has had his racing well spaced, and he returns from a spell after finishing second over 1600m at New Plymouth last December. He is stronger now, and cops a wet track. Hard to beat. OFFERTORY (1) handled the rise to a mile well last start, looming as a winning chance before sticking on gamely for second at Hastings on a very testing track. He is peaking at the right time, and should be right in the finish again. SHADOW RULER (9) ran on too late at New Plymouth last time but will be suited to the extra 200m here. With luck from a wide gate, she is good enough to take this out. OUR BOY ARCHIE (5) hit the line strongly for third at Hastings last time out, and even though he has copped a wide gate, he can't be taken lightly. Stick with him. SUGGESTED PLAY: Shadow Ruler each way.
