Brandt Maiden Plate 1000m
A solid tempo is on the cards with Future Soldier and Brave Apache pushing for the lead ahead of Renege and Snowball. COOL CHARLIE (2) is a leader who peaks off two Bendigo placings. He handles this surface and finds the right race. LONG REIGN (12) debuts for the McEvoy yard and won a recent jump-out. The filly sits at the bottom of the handicap, and the stable strikes at 35% at the track. A winning hope with average luck in transit. RENEGE (7) switched from James Cummings and looked a run short at Donald first-up. Jumped a $3 favourite and will be sharper with that under the belt. He has an awkward barrier that needs managing. FUTURE SOLDIER (3) led and missed 1L at Ararat and will be better for it. Maps to advantage and won't be far away. SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Cool Charlie. |

It's likely to be tactical given scant early speed. RAMBITION (4) raced a $2.60 favourite at Wangaratta but didn't get into it after a poor start. Arrives here on a quick back-up and with the first-time blinkers on. He was narrowly beaten at Echuca before spelling and deserves another chance. The McEvoy yard flies at the track and presents VILLE DE LUMIERE (12) first-up. She didn't come up last preparation but has raced well in Listed grade, and has jumped out positively. Draws inside, and Coffey stays aboard. Feared. COAL RIVER (1) resumes and two starts back wasn't beaten far at Horsham on debut. He will have come on and has been fitted with two jump-outs. Capable of a decent return. SPARKLES (11) debuts and has jumped out well on the Pakenham synthetic. Has the blinkers first-time applied and despite the wide barrier is likely to race well. SUGGESTED PLAY: Rambition gets another chance. |

Just a modest tempo anticipated. WINNING TOAST (7) improved to lead on the bend and was beaten a nose at Bendigo first-up. He's jumped out well here since, and John Allen sticks from that. Strips fitter over this longer trip and is well placed to win MORTHAN EFFICIENT (4) resumes gelded and has jumped out positively at the track. He's been unlucky not to have broken through and maps for the run of the race. BARRELLING (1) is third-up and will appreciate the step-up in distance. Coffey goes back on, and he should be around the mark. DUN WONDERING (3) resumes gelded and has won a recent Ararat jumpout. He raced new on debut and will be naturally improved. Keep on side. SUGGESTED PLAY: With Winning Toast. |

Porter Plant BM64 Handicap 1500m
Expecting Dillinger to lead Ioane at just a moderate tempo. The local DILLINGER (1) has been kept on the fresh side since his 70 win in town over 1800m. He flies at the track, and the 4kg claim offsets most of the weight increase. Races forward and the hat trick beckons. IOANE (4) switched from a Queensland barn and just missed at Geelong first up over this trip. He was plainer at Sale after, but will be better for that, and Meech will give him every chance from an inside barrier. ABSOLUTE SUNSHINE (5) is knocking on the door for a leading yard and maps to get every chance. He's also a threat. GOLD RELAY (8) next best, measured on his impressive Maiden win first-up. SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Dillinger. |

A distinct absence of early speed so don't expect any records to be broken. HELL OF A TRIP (4) resumes off a longish break and has jumped out positively well in town. She races well here and has the first-time blinkers applied. Maps to advantage and expect a bold return. MISS MAHJONG (2) found the grade a bit rich at Warrnambool but was good at Sandown-Lakeside prior, and she won at Kyneton first-up this grade before that. Look for her to be running into it late. HOAX (3) resumes for the McEvoys and didn't come up last preparation. Her prior Tasmanian form reads well ánd she placed in a recent jumpout. No surprise to see a bold return. FAYETTA (5) is better placed today and assess her on the 2L defeat at Sandown-Lakeside, two starts ago. SUGGESTED PLAY: Leaning to Hell Of A Trip. |

Wild Canary and Brullen possess good early speed. The former Singapore galloper STRIKE GOLD (1) prepared well and went close at Bendigo first-up. He maps well, and the longer sprint suits. Coffey takes over from the apprentice and fitter, he finds a winnable assignment. NEON'S LAST (5) resumed with a comfortable 58 win at Donald and the former South Australian seeks the hat-trick. Maps well and with the extra fitness shapes as a quinella hope. HIGHLAND SON (2) would be a strong hope if he found his best Queensland form. He's been disappointing, but may sit closer today with Linda booked, and show more. FOXY HEART (9) was only beaten 1.6K at Geelong, but was terrible here on the wet course proper following. Uses the rail and will likely appreciate the synthetic surface. Goes in at a price. SUGGESTED PLAY: Hard to go past Strike Gold. |

Cesar Bessan and Just Remember It can be prominent. The speedy TOCHKA (6) built on the 58 win with a near miss at Cranbourne this trip/level. She tried to go one better there following, but folded up badly (vet cleared). Meech takes over from the apprentice and will run her along. In the right stable and is worth another chance. JUST REMEMBER IT (3) prepared well and resumed for the new stable with an easy Pakenham Maiden win. He impressed and will strip fitter. Coffey will give him every chance from an inside barrier. MORNING DARLING (1) resumes and has raced well on this surface. He's been off the scene for a while but has jumped out well. Proven fresh and keep him very safe. COSMIC RHAPSODY (7) resumes and has jumped out positively at Donald. Has the blinkers on again and looks capable of getting some minor cash. SUGGESTED PLAY: With Tochka. |
