Genuine tempo with Riviera Rebel leading the way. STONYBRECK (5) has been steadily improving in each of his runs back from a spell, and he will relish stepping up a further 200m from his last start in the G3 White Robe Stakes at Wingatui 3 weeks ago. He cops a decent draw and will have the services of Opie Bosson again. Stick with him on top here. NOBLE KNIGHT (3) let down with an irresistible finish to score an easy win in the Dunedin Gold Cup 3 weeks ago over 2600m. He likes some cut in the ground, and though dropping back in trip is not ideal, he is still good enough to repeat the dose. COGNITO (1) resumed over a mile here more than 6 weeks ago and failed to fire after having a tough trip. He was also found to be mildly lame after the run, which explains the modest effort. He loves it here and would not be lining up if his stable did not think he could win. Each way. ELEGANT LADY (10) failed to fire in the Dunedin Cup, but he is much better placed in this. Include in all top 4 combos. MATSCOT (2) flew home last start. Each way. SUGGESTED PLAY: Stonybreck can win this at a good price.
