Reasonable tempo with Duke Of Bedford probably leading but a few others should keep him honest. DUKE OF BEDFORD (5) is last year's Grand Annual winner who is being readied for his title defence but showed first-up he can pull out a run on the flat. The question mark is whether he can repeat that again over a trip well short of his best, but he draws to race handy if desired and this race does have a long tail. HERE COMES RUBY (8) ran fourth at her latest appearance over 1950m at Yarra Valley, finishing 2.75 lengths from the winner, which followed a good second placing and a repeat of either of those two efforts would have her in contention. It's hard to forgive DISTILLERY (3) for the defeat at $1.50 last time out, but he started that price because of a narrow defeat in 62 grade at Seymour the start prior and if he rediscovers that form he'll play a key role here. LIKA WRECKIN' BALL (1) has never raced in BM56 grade, so he'll find this much more suitable than recent runs. LANE CHANGER (11) should be at peak fitness and rises to a suitable trip. SUGGESTED PLAY: Duke Of Bedford to win.
