A solid tempo on the cards with Rocky Marciano heading them off. VESPHIRE (10) has been unable to lock another win, and she is usually running home strongly into the top 4 placings or finding trouble in the run home. She should have plenty of room and time to find space on this track. So look for her late. Can win. ESPERANZA (9) has been mixing her form, and seems to prefer the firmer tracks as opposed to the wet ground she has been racing on recently. She is back out to a mile, and in this sort of field, she can figure in the top 4. SUMMIT UP (3) has made an encouraging start to his career, winning third up nearly 3 weeks ago by a nose on this track. He won't find this much harder, and he can repeat the dose. VESPACIAN (8) failed to fire in a much stronger field at Ellerslie 4 weeks ago over 2100m. She is much better placed in this, and she is worth another chance. ROCKY MARCIANO (6) set the pace and was too strong in a modest field at Matamata last time out. His confidence will be up, and he could take some pegging back again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Vesphire to win.
