GOING: G(3)

REMEMBERING DENNIS WATSON OPEN SPRINTS 1400m

Track: GOOD 3     Out 8m to the 1000m then Out 10m to the WP

A solid tempo is on the cards with Our Echo and Toa Haka pushing for the lead ahead of Witz End and Victorian Charm. WITZ END (1) was a brave winner of the Hazlett Stakes in his penultimate start, and he then chased in vain when finishing fifth in the White Robe Lodge over 1600m 3 weeks ago. He is probably best over this trip, and he should go close to taking it out. TEXAS DOLLY (5) missed the bob of the head when finishing runner-up by a nose at Ashburton 9 days ago. The extra 200m should not be an issue, and she can go one better. TOA HAKA (4) set the pace and was only caught late at Ashburton nearly a month ago, and he will be peaking at the right time for this. Any rain on the day will enhance his winning claims. Stick with him. VIVACIOUS (7) was too good fresh up on a heavy track in a lesser field here 17 days ago, and she is usually better with racing. She drops in weight, so go again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Witz End can win this, but the field is very even.
