Keen battle for the lead with Balmain Warrior, Ausbred Eclipse and Van Hoven in advance of Buongiorno and Viva Viva.
VAN HOVEN (6) for Waterhouse/Bott has impressed in two runs to date. Just missed the placings on debut over 1400m at Goulburn then appreciated the step up to a mile when beaten a length here last start. Progressed nicely last time and a similar advancement today should see him break through. BUONGIORNO (3) started favourite but after coming from next to last at one stage could only manage second over 1625m at Wyong last time. Has only raced twice so he is open to plenty of improvement, particularly on this roomier track. NOMADIC (9) struggled to quicken under 60kgs over 1400m at Newcastle most recently. Fitter for two runs back and needs this sort of trip now. KIVISKA (8) made significant improvement last start after a modest debut, beaten a whisker over 1400m at Hawkesbury. Found the line like a horse that will relish the step up to 1600m. KAWERAU (4) was plain first-up over 1300m at Hawkesbury but this is a far more suitable assignment. SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Van Hoven.
