Genuine tempo with Quick Fire and Boomtown Boy pressing for the lead.
QUICK FIRE (4) remained unbeaten on this track in a couple of starts when getting in the final stride to score by a nose 3 weeks ago over 2400m. She is stepping up to open-class for the first time, but carries half a kilo less, and she will be hard to hold out again. BOOMTOWN BOY (6) seems to have forgotten how to win, and ran on gamely for second at Otaki 18 days ago. He drops down to a light weight and has attracted top South Island hoop Tina Comignaghi North for the ride. That is a positive lead, and the pair merits healthy respect. DROP OF SOMETHING (1) drops through late courtesy of a good ride to score here over a mile 3 weeks ago. He is likely to settle back from a wide gate, but now that his mojo is back, he can win again. NIGELLA LANE (2) is stepping up quickly in trip after finishing third fresh up at Arawa Park 7 days ago. She will have to be at her best to win this, but can't be underestimated. WHAT A CHARMA (5) is a tough gelding when fit, and he is an each-way threat. SUGGESTED PLAY: Boomtown Boy will produce his usual honest effort in a very even contest.
