Without an obvious leader, it may be left to Shaking Stevens, Gangsta Granny and Castlebrae to control the tempo. SHAKING STEVENS (7) ran a bottler for third at Riccarton in his penultimate start, and then did not cope with a 7-day backup when finishing well back there nearly 4 weeks ago. He is well placed here, and despite copping a wide gate, he can bounce back and win a race like this. DAVID MOSS (1) has not had much luck in some competitive fields at Riccarton. He can stay out of trouble from a wide gate, and if he makes his move at the right time, he could just be too strong for this field. GANGSTA GRANNY (4) has been mixing her form, and was a beaten favourite at Oamaru 3 weeks ago when getting keyed up before the race. She has a good draw and is worth another chance. Follow your money. DIORESSENCE (8) resumes from a well at a trip that is short of her best. She is meeting an even field, and must be given some chance of running into the money. I HOPE I NEVER (5) can be very hard to catch, but in this field, he is not the worst at some nice value. SUGGESTED PLAY: Shaking Stevens is the one to beat, and David Moss won't be far away.
