Plenty of pace with The Republican and Barbie Doll up front, pressured by Early Times and Touch O'paradise.
TOUCH O'PARADISE (3) has been running some good races without much luck recently and was not far from the winner when finishing fifth at Whanganui 8 days ago. The key this time is having Bruno Queiroz in the saddle, and he has a chance to post an overdue maiden win. UNUSUAL GEM (11) peaked on her run when resuming from a spell at Hawera 15 days ago, when finishing fourth. She has only been lightly tried and has more to offer once she matures. Each way claims with the advantage of the pole position. THE REPUBLICAN (2) failed to finish over the steeples at Hawera last start, and his effort for second on the flat here is the guide to use. Stick with him on an each-way basis. CRAFTSMAN (1) steps back up to a middle distance, and he is worth including in all combinations in a field like this. LAZY (5) was well beaten last time out, but will be getting fitter, and a middle distance will suit him better than the 1200m trip at Whanganui 8 days ago. He is not the worst in this at big odds. SUGGESTED PLAY: Touch O'Paradise each way, and Unusual Gem for all combinations.
