Solid tempo likely from the outset with a number of speedy beginners engaged, most notably Bank Maur and Magnaspin. CRAIG (11) is a progressive import who was far too classy first-up and is using this as a potential springboard to the Group 1 Toorak Handicap. Needs to win this to assure a spot in that race and looks to get his chance down in the weights from the good draw. DESERT LIGHTNING (1) is proven at the top level in NZ and although beaten in lesser company last start he was a game run out wide with a big weight and will be better for that outing and the extra distance suits. NICOLINI VITO (5) looked all over a winner last start only to be nabbed late and should again be around the mark. HOLYMANZ (7) should appreciate a quiet ride and the firmer track. SUGGESTED PLAY: Craig to win.
