Cracking pace early with Otahuhu, Smart One and Pacific Sonic leading the charge. SANTINO (2) hit the frame two starts ago at this track but ran below par last time when sixth and beaten 2.75 lengths over 1200m here. Better than the last run suggests and he is up to this challenge. ROYAL COMMISSION (5) improved last time out, finishing 2.75 lengths from the winner in third at the end of 1200m at this track. Genuine gelding who should figure in the finish. SMART ONE (9) was below his best last time, finishing sixth and beaten 4 lengths over 1600m at this track after being in contention on the corner. Must raise the bar but this looks well within his grasp. VGOR (6) was in the money two starts back at this track but couldn't back it up last time when tenth, beaten 8 lengths, at this track over 1200m. Open to improvement and should be about the mark.
