A race that lacks early pressure on paper. BETELGEUSE (8) is the one to beat despite coming off a plain fifth as a well-supported favourite, beaten five and a half lengths by Noah Black at Kasamatsu. That market confidence is still a positive guide in a race lacking a dominant last-start winner, but she must give punters a better return this time. TOSEN PASSO (1) is the main danger on his near-miss two runs back, when beaten a length by G T Oka, and his proven Kasamatsu 1400m record gives him a reliable base if he can put the latest fade behind him. T O LYRA (4) brings the freshest winning reference, having beaten Kimini Meromero two back before a sound fourth, while NIHONPIRO PERRY (5) has the best track-and-distance profile of the quartet and looks the dependable place-and-win saver if the principals leave the door open.

She had also been safely held two back when seventh behind Best Fantasy, beaten eight and a half lengths. Four wins and 19 places at this course and distance help, but recent form leaves a clear improvement task. |

That latest effort held merit at long odds, and her record of two wins and eleven places from 50 Kasamatsu 1400m runs gives her each-way substance. She is more a realistic place chance than a runner to take short odds about. |
