NAGOYA   16 Sep 2026

GOING:

Race 9 920m

Track:

Plenty of pressure from Mikano Venus, Smart Saturn and Hakusan Shuttle battling for the lead over Hakusan Mignon. BLU ROSSO (8) leads in a competitive B5 due to her reliable recent form. She was the favourite last time out, finishing third to Personal Record over 1500m, beaten by five and a half lengths. However, she boasts a solid Nagoya record with four wins and four places from 17 starts in the past year. HAKUSAN MIGNON (3) brings the best last-start result, winning a 3yo+ B1 by a length and a half as the favourite; her seven track wins command respect, though the drop to 920m raises questions. SISTER NEBULA (5) has a strong claim after a seven-length win two runs back and a solid fourth behind Personal Record, but she must overturn a recent loss to Blu Rosso. GOLD LETTER (10) excels at this distance with four wins and one place from seven attempts, but a mediocre B1 run keeps her behind the top contenders.

KATSUYUKI IMAZU
4YO  BAY  HORSE 57.0KG
Toru Okawa
Returns from a five-week let-up after finishing fourth in a 3yo+ C1 over 1500m at Kanazawa, beaten just under four lengths after failing to finish it off. He had led to the turn and was run down late when third there the run prior, so the drop to 920m raises a genuine question. Barrier 1 can help him use his early speed, but he still needs a sharper closing response.

Masashi Isobe
Has been badly out of form, finishing last in a 3yo+ B6 over 1500m at Nagoya when beaten over 19 lengths at big odds. The start prior was no better, also last here after settling rearward and never competitive. A class drop and past track win sit in the background, but recent margins leave him with a lot to repair before he threatens.

Led throughout in a 3yo+ B1 over 1500m at Nagoya last week, beating Eau Scintillante by a length and a half as favourite. That was a clear lift on her fifth to Hiogi over 1400m when she worked home evenly at generous odds. She rises from 52kg to 53kg and comes back sharply in trip, but seven wins at this track and the winning rider staying aboard make her a serious player again.

Seiho Tanaka
Kept on for fifth over 1500m at Nagoya last start, beaten just under four lengths after leading in a race where he was near the top of an open market. Two weeks earlier he ran third in a 3yo+ B6 at big odds, so his current form is honest rather than dominant. Returning to a proven track-and-distance setup gives him a genuine minor-money case.

Finished fourth in a 3yo+ B6 over 1500m at Nagoya a couple of weeks ago, beaten five and a half lengths after looking out of play before closing strongly. That followed a dominant seven-length C1 win here over L'Echellede L'Ange, so the upside is plain. Blu Rosso beat her home last time and the trip is shorter now, but she still brings a strong winning case.

Kosho Bokujo
Ran sixth in a 3yo+ B4 over 1400m at Nagoya last start, beaten just over four lengths, after being an outside chance in betting. Her previous fourth over 1500m here was a similar even effort at generous odds. The class drop and winning rider returning help a little, but at seven years of age she needs to find more than she has shown lately.

Returns from a six-week let-up after finishing second last in a 3yo+ C2 over 1600m at Funabashi, where he was an outside chance in betting but dropped right out. He had been sixth there over 1200m before that, beaten just under six lengths at long odds. The jockey and trainer ranks are positives, but his recent form gives him plenty to prove at Nagoya.

Hidenobu Takada
Worked home evenly when third in a 3yo+ B6 over 1500m at Nagoya last start, beaten five and a half lengths after being sent out favourite. She had picked up nicely in the straight when fifth to Stapes Shoma two back, and her overall profile is sound with two wins and three places from twelve starts here. Having recently beaten Sister Nebula, she looks one of the more dependable winning chances.

Matsuju Onoue
Returns from a lengthy spell after a consistent run of form at Nagoya, most recently third in a 3yo+ B4 when beaten a length and a half as an odds-on favourite after leading to the turn. She had been beaten only a neck in a 3yo+ B1 prior, tracking the lead and just missing. Her overall record of five wins and seven places from 14 starts is excellent, but the break tempers the win confidence.

SEIGO TSUKAMOTO

TAKAO TSUKADA
3YO  BAY  FILLY 55.0KG

Travelled well to the turn and worked home evenly for third in a 3yo+ C1 at Nagoya last week, beaten just under three lengths by Sembi Toryo. The run prior was a plain last in a 3yo+ B1 when she could not make ground, so there is a query on consistency. Still, four wins and one place from seven starts at this track and distance make her a credible place chance.

Goichi Kawasaki
Has finished seventh at both recent starts in 3yo+ B4 grade at Nagoya, beaten six and a half lengths behind Cosmo Nashville before a five-and-a-half-length defeat behind Whittingham. He has won here before and has placed once from two attempts at the distance, but the current form is flat and he needs to show far more late.
