A distinct absence of early speed so don't expect any records to be broken. SWINDLE (4) sets the standard in a compact 3yo C4 at Mombetsu. He was favourite when fourth behind Mana Moana here two weeks ago, beaten five lengths, and the fact he worked home well keeps him high in calculations, particularly with solid track-and-distance place figures. DR AKIYOSHI (7) is the main danger after finishing third in the same race, beaten three and a half lengths, and he has the recent head-to-head edge over Swindle, though he was safely held. MISS KANOYA ROSA (1) was second there at generous odds and beat both of those rivals, but she still profiles more as a place runner after being beaten over 15 lengths the start prior. RIC STARK (5) needs to rebound from a plain ninth over 1000m, yet his previous fourth keeps him in the wider mix.

That gave her the measure of Dr Akiyoshi and Swindle, which is useful, but it followed a sixth behind Eudaemonia when beaten over 15 lengths and only fair late. With two placings from four starts, she has a genuine place profile rather than a dominant winning one. |

Unplaced in all 22 starts, including 15 at this track and distance, he needs a sharp turnaround. |

Even so, race experience is absent and the assessment must stay measured until he shows what he can do under pressure. |

The rise to 1200m is a query and he is unplaced in 13 starts at this track and distance, so a place is the realistic aim. |
