GOING: S

Race 11 2400m

Track: SOFT

Good speed from Hero Call, Gluhwurm and Rebake Full City. REBAKE FULL CITY (8) earns top billing after resuming with a length-and-a-half win at Funabashi over 1800m, and the way he charged home suggests the step out to 2400m is the main question rather than a negative. GLUHWURM (5) is the proven Ohi 2400m reference, having won here last start by just under two lengths after missing narrowly at Kawasaki, and his record with Takayuki Yano is a further strength. SERAPHIC CALL (4) returns from a break but his fourth here behind Mikki Fight reads well enough, especially with strong distance figures. O SHIN HALF (6) is the value danger after going close over 1400m here, though the distance rise is a clear test.

TSUYOSHI TAKANO
6YO  CHESTNUT  HORSE 57.0KG

Returns from a lengthy spell after finishing second last in a 4yo+ COND over 2000m at Ohi, beaten over 16 lengths by Mikki Fight after settling rearward and starting among the outsiders. He had also been tenth here over 2000m, beaten over 12 lengths. The track and distance record is excellent, but recent form leaves him with a substantial rebuilding task.

Placed again when third in a 3yo+ A2B1 over 2200m at Funabashi, though he was beaten eight and a half lengths at long odds. Two back he was third to Gluhwurm at Ohi, beaten over 11 lengths after failing to quicken. The return to a distance where he has two wins and three places from five starts keeps him in the minor-money discussion rather than as a dominant winning option.

Went close second-up when runner-up at Kanazawa over 2000m, beaten half a length by Dante Barows after working home evenly. The concern is the stronger staying test, as he failed to finish it off over 2100m at Nagoya two back and is unplaced in three Ohi track-and-distance attempts. He needs to reproduce the latest effort and stretch it further.

Returns from a lengthy spell after a sound fourth in a 4yo+ COND over 2000m at Ohi, beaten just under three lengths by Mikki Fight after picking up nicely in the straight despite starting at long odds. His previous sixth at Kawasaki was more one-paced, but two wins and a placing from three tries at this distance strengthen the case. If he is ready fresh, he has the class to threaten.

Back after five weeks following a decisive Ohi win in a 3yo+ COND, where he beat Cosmo Magallanica by just under two lengths as an odds-on favourite and extended comfortably after racing forward. That followed a nose second to Mountain Laurel at Kawasaki, so the form pattern is strong. With two wins from three at this track and distance and Takayuki Yano aboard, he is a major player again.

Almost landed it at Ohi last start, finishing second in a 3yo+ B1B2 over 1400m and beaten just under a length by Little Bighorn after being caught late. He was fifth at Urawa before that, beaten just under four lengths after settling back. The form is heading the right way, but being unplaced in three goes at this distance makes the 2400m the defining test.

Back after five weeks since finishing fifth to Gluhwurm at Ohi in a 3yo+ COND, beaten over 14 lengths despite making some late ground. His prior run here over 2600m was also plain, ninth and beaten over 13 lengths after finding little. He has a minor track-and-distance placing on the page, but the recent margins say he must improve sharply.

Produced the best recent winning performance in the race when scoring by a length and a half over 1800m at Funabashi, beating Dateno Shogun after charging home from a seemingly forlorn spot with more to offer. He had also finished off well when fifth at Ohi over 2000m. The first try at 2400m is the query, but his recent profile, Ohi record and partnership with Wada Joji make him the runner to beat.

Back after two months since a plain sixth in a 3yo+ COND over 2000m at Morioka Dirt, beaten over 11 lengths by Sunday Funday after racing handy enough but failing to finish off. His Ohi third two back was better, beaten just over six lengths by Saint Honore. The career record is solid, but the trip rise and latest run leave him as a rough place hope.

Back after five weeks following a distant fourth to Gluhwurm at Ohi, beaten over 13 lengths after settling rearward. His Funabashi fourth two back over 2200m was more encouraging, beaten just over three lengths after picking up in the straight. He has won at Ohi, but the 2400m record is a concern and others bring sharper current form.

Failed to back up his Funabashi win when tenth behind Rebake Full City over 1800m, beaten over 12 lengths after having too much to do and making no headway. The run prior was a narrow 3yo+ COND victory over Sisyphus in a small field as a short odds-on favourite. His broader record is sound and he has won at Ohi, but the first try at 2400m makes him more a place consideration.
