Race 12 1230m

Track:

In a race devoid of early speed Purple Paraiso is the most likely to find the front. WISPY SNOW (10) holds the most appealing profile despite being beaten just over three lengths into fifth in a 3yo+ C2 at Sonoda last start. That was a clear enough lift on the previous eighth, and her broader Sonoda record, plus two wins in the past 12 months, gives her the most reliable base among the main chances. WAROTERU (9) has not been finishing his races off at 1400m, but the return to 1230m and his one win and one place from four starts at the track and distance make him a genuine threat if he sharpens up. SHIGERU NOVA (4) improved to be beaten five lengths last start after a poor run prior, so she has claims in this grade without being bombproof. TRYFAN (3) has been around the same margin in recent C2 runs and looks more a place chance than a dominant winning hope.

NORIO TANAKA
9YO  BAY  HORSE 57.0KG

Comes back in grade after two plain 1400m efforts in 3yo+ C2 company at Sonoda, most recently eighth behind Teikei Holomua when beaten over 14 lengths at long odds. The start prior was little better, finishing second last behind J Pack after finding little when in a striking spot. Has placed at this track and distance, but current form leaves him with a clear task.

Has a better race shape on paper from barrier 2 and does bring proven Sonoda 1230m form, with one win and three places from 15 starts at the track and trip. The concern is the latest C2 form: ninth behind Lunar Phantom, beaten just over seven lengths after being unwanted in the market, following a sixth to Techno Express. More a place hope than a win anchor.

Has been safely held in two recent 3yo+ C2 runs at Sonoda, finishing ninth behind Haste last start after starting unwanted, following a sixth to Win Kaguyahime when giving away too much start. He tends to be ridden rearward, so he must be close enough when the race is there to be won. The class drop is useful, but the win case remains limited.

Improved last start when sixth behind Haste in a 3yo+ C2 at Sonoda, beaten five lengths at long odds, and that was a clear step forward from finishing last behind Win Kaguyahime when beaten over 15 lengths. The market has not been with her, but the class drop and better recent figure bring her into this. A repeat of the latest effort puts her right in the contest.

Worked home fairly from well back at Sonoda last start but was still sixth behind Vomero and beaten over 13 lengths in a 1400m 3yo+ C2. The run prior was also safely held, finishing second last behind Caro Avanti. The return to 1230m and past track-and-trip success are positives, yet recent margins make her a risky proposition unless she finds several lengths.

Masaji Kitagawa
Lightly raced filly who showed more last start when sixth behind Fleurir at Sonoda, beaten seven and a half lengths after working home fairly. That was an improvement on the run prior, where she was never competitive and was beaten out of sight behind A Shin Diva over 1400m. Still unplaced from six starts, but the light weight gives her some minor-money scope.

NAMBU FUMA

SHINOBU NODA
3YO  BAY  COLT 56.0KG

Has the right historical notes, including a Sonoda 1230m win and a prior win with this jockey, but the current form is difficult to recommend. He was tailed off behind Ai Towa last start after conceding a huge start, having already finished tenth behind Win Kaguyahime when beaten over 11 lengths. Needs a major form reversal before he is a betting proposition.

TOYOKAZU TANO

Masatoshi Haramura
Has been well beaten at both recent 1400m runs at Sonoda, finishing second last behind Daiboken last start at big odds after settling rearward, and last behind Economica two back when well beaten by 23 lengths. She has won at this track before and has placed at the distance, but the present form line is weak and she needs a much stronger finish.
8
KOICHI TAKAHATA
RED, Orange cap
9 82777 WAROTERU
KOJI OBAYASHI
3YO  BAY  COLT 54.0KG

Drops back from 1400m after finishing seventh behind Chopasni at Sonoda, beaten just over nine lengths when he failed to finish it off. The run prior was another seventh, this time behind Grand Centre, and he was never a real factor. The important counterpoint is his 1230m record here, with one win and one place from four starts. That makes him a strong contender if the shorter trip sparks improvement.

Fujiko Mizukami
Produced the best recent run of the main chances when fifth behind Elizabethtown at Sonoda, beaten just over three lengths in a 1400m 3yo+ C2 after settling rearward. Two back she was eighth behind Kafuji Mimolette, but did make some late ground after conceding too much start. With two wins at this track and solid recent-season form, she looks the one to beat if the drop in trip suits.

11 10908 PURPLE PARAISO
TOMOTAKA MORISAWA

Ginju Nakano
Has been out of form, most recently leading before being claimed and dropping out alarmingly behind Fleurir at Sonoda, finishing last and beaten a long way. The start prior over 820m was also plain, with a tenth behind Blue Brave after being close enough at the turn. A class drop and one win in the past 12 months offer some hope, but he needs conditions to fall his way.
