SONODA   16 Sep 2026

GOING:

Race 5 1230m

Track:

Without a recognised leader a modest gallop is on the cards. SIENA KING (8) sets the standard in a modest 3yo C3. He was fifth here last start, beaten just over four lengths by Jericoacoara, and his straight work was sound enough to suggest he is holding his form. He also has the recent edge. OVER CATCH MY EYE (7), who was beaten by him at Sonoda a couple of weeks ago but remains a genuine threat on her consistent enough C3 efforts. CATHPA IMPACT (4) has plain 820m form on paper, yet the return to 1230m and the class profile give him a stronger winning case than those margins alone imply. LINLITHGOW (2) resumes from a three-month break after two poor 3yo C1 runs, so the drop into this grade is the key positive, though he must show more.
1 59005 MERRY GO ROUND
MIZOHASHI RIKIO
5YO  CHESTNUT  HORSE 56.0KG

Worked home from well back for fifth over 820m at Sonoda last start, beaten just over six lengths by Five Reyna after being sent out at long odds. That was a better effort than his previous run when last over 1400m and beaten out of sight. The rise to 1230m is still a genuine query and he is unplaced in four attempts at this track and distance, but that latest finish keeps him in the minor-money mix.

Returns from a three-month break after finishing last in a 3yo C1 at Sonoda, well beaten by Cool Field when he was just off the leading division before weakening. His previous run was also a last placing over 820m behind Smart Freyja, beaten nine lengths at long odds. The class drop into 3yo C3 is the saving point, but his exposed form leaves him as a cautious place prospect.

3YO  DK B  COLT 57.0KG

Has been safely held in two recent 3yo+ C2 runs at Sonoda, finishing sixth last start when beaten over 10 lengths by Akkeshi after settling a long way back. The start prior was similar, beaten over 11 lengths behind Harienju over 1400m. He has won at this track before and drops in grade, but the current form says he must find a much stronger finish.

Tadakuni Sugiyama
Steps back up from 820m after finishing seventh at Sonoda last start, beaten seven and a half lengths by Madam Ladybug at big odds. He was also safely held over the same trip two back, but the return to 1230m and the class setup are more suitable pointers than his recent sprint margins. Needs to show more intent late, yet this looks a realistic chance to improve sharply.

Finished last over 820m at Sonoda last start, beaten over 12 lengths by Nordia after settling rearward and making no late impression. His previous seventh behind Hokuzan Chouchou was also well beaten at long odds. The class drop and solid career record offer some background support, but the rise to 1230m comes with a query and he needs a clear form reversal.

Shigeyuki Nishiyama
Comes back sharply in trip after finishing seventh over 1870m at Sonoda, beaten a long way by Fidelis when unable to make ground. She was also last over 1400m two back in a 3yo+ COND. The recent form is poor, but she has placed three times from eight starts at this track and distance, which gives her a more credible place profile than a winning one.

SHINJI OTSUKA
3YO  DK B  FILLY 55.0KG

Kept working when sixth over 1230m at Sonoda last start, beaten six and a half lengths by Jericoacoara after having the job ahead. She had earlier finished fifth over 1400m behind Frevo by the same margin, so the form is consistent without being dominant. Siena King had her measure here recently, but she remains one of the better chances if she finds another length.
7
SHINGO OYAMA
WHITE, NAVY BLUE ARMBANDS, Green cap
8 07265 SIENA KING
HIROYUKI YAMAGUCHI
8YO  BAY  HORSE 57.0KG

Picked up nicely in the straight when fifth over 1230m at Sonoda last start, beaten just over four lengths by Jericoacoara, and that reads well for this field. His previous sixth over 1400m behind Re Go To was also within a similar margin after settling back. With eight wins and 15 placings from 63 starts and a recent edge over Catch My Eye, he has the most convincing winning profile.

Was second last over 1400m at Sonoda last start, beaten over 19 lengths by Glory One at big odds, and the run offered little improvement from her previous last behind Thermopylae. She is still a maiden after 14 starts and has been unplaced in all three tries at this track and distance. The class drop is noted, but she needs a major lift to be competitive.

AKIHIRO TAMURA
3YO  CHESTNUT  FILLY 54.0KG

Settled rearward and made no impression when tenth over 820m at Sonoda last start, beaten over 13 lengths by Nishino Galante at long odds. The run prior was almost identical behind Trance Run. She is yet to win from 19 starts and is unplaced in nine runs at this track, so the rise in trip needs to spark a far better performance.

Koichi Takeshita
Finished last in a 3yo+ C2 at Sonoda last start, well beaten by 27 lengths behind Lunar Phantom after giving further ground late. Two back he was second last behind Techno Express and again finished well held. Dropping in grade is some help, but a maiden record of one placing from 24 starts and no track-distance placing make this a difficult assignment.
