Ice Cold Gold and Best Rose to take up the running at a strong tempo. HOORAY FOR HARRY (1) has a very consistent record and will be resuming from a spell that would have done him the world of good. He won a recent Ashburton trial very easily, and with Opie Bosson in the saddle, he is the one to beat. GRAEME JOHN (4) has been runner-up in all 3 starts from the David Walsh stable, and his record up North was all on the turf. He has the pole position and should pick up a well-deserved win at short notice. BEST ROSE (8) ended her initial prep in Stakes company on this track. She was third in a recent tune-up trial at Ashburton and will be ready to rumble fresh up. RUSSIAN ROSETTE (3) did not run on as expected here 3 weeks ago and drops right back to 1000m from 1400m. She is worth another chance. QUARTZ QUEEN (6) was well ridden to score at Oamaru 15 days ago. She was a game fourth here before that, and should be competitive again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Hooray For Harry should be winning this.
