No recognised leader engaged but Cable De Vega has the pace to work to the front. The career record of MAWHERA (7) doesn't exactly inspire confidence and he hasn't run a place at his past 11 starts, but the last-start fourth placing looks to the key piece of form for this. That was in a BM64 race at Sandown, when stepping up to 2100m for the first time this campaign, so he looks primed to be the testing material. TOP ARCTIC (4) broke through when up to around this trip last time out, which followed a good second placing, so he's struck form at the right time to play a major hand in a race of this nature. Big watch on DURBAN HARBOUR (1), who comes down from Qld for the Symons/Laxon stable and was an easy maiden winner only two back so warrants serious consideration. SUGGESTED PLAY: Mawhera to win.
