Off the inside draw Denman Avenue should bounce straight to the lead and set a solid tempo.
DENMAN AVENUE (1) has been a touch on the weak side throughout his career and is showing signs of being more competitive with a last start second place finish by a head at a recent Gladstone picnic meeting. He is suited by the pole position, and with the right run, he could snare his first win here. MR HANKY PANKY (4) ran on strongly off a soft run at Toowoomba 15 days ago to finish second over 1100m. Bailey Wheeler picks up the ride, and with an extra 100m being in his favour, he could go one better. RUBOS (5) drops back from a mile 2 weeks ago into a 1200m sprint here, which is of some concern, but if he doesn't get too far back from a wide gate, then he can figure in the top 3. SECRET CAVIAR (12) failed to fire at Gladstone 8 days ago and has he blinkers off for the first time. Such is the field that she is still a first four chance here. PHYLISS (11) will be peaking third up, and she is worth including in all combinations at a decent price. SUGGESTED PLAY: In a poor field, we think Denman Avenue can get the job done.
