GOING:

Race 7 1400m

Track:

Genuine tempo with Felsite and Pua Lani pressing for the lead. FELSITE (1) is better than his latest result because his win here two starts ago was decisive and his Saga 1400m record gives him a strong platform to rebound. PUA LANI (8) is a chance returning from five weeks between runs. She has not been beaten far enough recently to dismiss and her track-and-distance record keeps her firmly in the argument. O K THUNDER (5) brings the clearest course-and-distance credentials, with five wins from six attempts, but his two Nagoya runs were well below the level required, so trust is the issue. KOMA ZERO ONE (2) is harder to sell as a winning threat after being unwanted in betting, yet his broader career record and recent 3yo+ B3 fifth give him a genuine minor-money chance if the principals leave the door open.

Keiichi Nagashima
Was disappointing as one of the better-fancied runners here last start, finishing eighth behind Lux Mendes and beaten over 10 lengths after settling prominently and coming under pressure late. The start prior gives him a strong counterpoint, having led and beaten Miranka by a length and a half at Saga. With two wins and three places from seven tries at this track and distance, he is entitled to bounce back sharply.

Improved slightly when fifth in a 3yo+ B3 here last start, beaten just over five lengths by Dead Vlei after settling rearward, though the market gave little encouragement. His previous seventh behind Rhein Angela was plain, and he has since lost to Pua Lani in the same form cycle. Eleven career wins command respect, but the distance query keeps him more a place chance than a win play.

Has not shown enough this campaign, finishing eighth over 900m here last start at big odds and beaten eight and a half lengths by Francina Tesoro. Two back he was last over 1750m behind Brave Decision, beaten over 19 lengths after offering little. The class drop is noted, but his recent form and trip profile leave him needing a marked turnaround.

Comes off a heavy defeat in 3yo+ B3 grade here, finishing ninth behind Dead Vlei and beaten over 18 lengths after settling rearward. The run prior was even weaker over 1750m, where he was beaten out of sight at outsider odds. He has four career wins, but is unplaced from five Saga starts and needs far more than a class drop to turn this around.

Returns to Saga with excellent track-and-distance figures, having won five of six attempts at this course and trip. That record is the clear positive, because his recent Nagoya form has been ordinary: seventh behind Val De Grace last start and second last behind Oreini Utaimasu two back in 3yo+ B5 company. His best local form puts him in the mix, but current form makes him risky as a win selection.

Worked home fairly without ever threatening when sixth in a 3yo+ B3 here last start, beaten six and a half lengths by Dead Vlei after being unwanted in the market. That was better than her previous last behind Rhein Angela, but still short of winning form. Two wins and four places from eleven track-and-distance runs give her some claims, yet she needs the race to fall kindly.

Has been making little impact from rearward positions, finishing eighth behind Dead Vlei last start in 3yo+ B3 grade and beaten eight and a half lengths at long odds. He was last the run prior behind Caldwell, beaten over 17 lengths after conceding a big start. A single placing from four starts at this track and distance is not enough to offset the recent negatives.

TAKAYOSHI KAWADA

Returns from a five-week freshening after finishing fifth here behind Rhein Angela, beaten just over five lengths at generous odds when unable to finish the job. She had also been safely held behind T O Smith two runs ago, but her broader Saga 1400m record is sound with three wins and nine places from 29 starts. With Jun Tanaka back aboard, she looks the main threat if she lifts on recent margins.
