Solid pace with Carignan finding the front but it won't be a picnic with a few other speedy types engaged. WRY SMILE (6) has found it hard to win another race, and was runner up again for the second time in his last 3 starts. He drops into Amateur grade here, and if he gets a good ride, then he has a big chance to get the job done. DERRYMAN (4) was a game fourth in a far stronger field at Ellerslie just over 2 weeks ago, and that form will hold up nicely in this field. Hard to beat. EARLY TIMES (1) made an early move and fought hard for third over 3210m at New Plymouth last start, and he will have the king of the amateur riders, Scott Macnab in the saddle this time. This race is the most important Amateur rider contest on the calendar, and Scott will be eager to win it. SO CALL ME (2) made light work of his rivals over hurdles 2 weeks ago at Woodville, and has won a trial since then. He has plenty of pace on the flat, and is nicely poised to repeat the dose. DEADLY PONY (3) was back in form fourth up from a spell when finishing third at Woodville a fortnight ago. Keep him safe in this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Deadly Pony each way.
