GOING:

Race 2 1300m

Track:

Tricky, given the lack of early speed. VENITIENNE (5) is the first runner to assess despite a plain debut, because she was sent out favourite at Kochi, was safely held when fifth behind Bear Magnum, and now has the chance to use that race experience in a very thin race. ENERGY LUMIERE (1) has had more chances, remaining unplaced from four starts, but she was a well-supported favourite when seventh behind Nine Smile and the market respect keeps her firmly in the argument if she can produce a cleaner effort. SHISHIMARU (4) resumes after three months and brings a relatively sounder margin profile, having been beaten nine and a half lengths by Sansan Kic last time after a debut fourth behind Rikea Samba. KEY SONG (3) has been beaten out of sight in both starts, so the winning case is harder to make, but in a race lacking depth she can still be considered for minor money if she finds any natural improvement third-up.
1 9987 ENERGY LUMIERE
YOICHI MIYAJI
2YO  BAY  FILLY 55.0KG

Came up very short when seventh at Kochi last start, beaten a long way behind Nine Smile after being sent out a well-supported favourite. That followed an eighth behind Smith Barows when beaten over 13 lengths at big odds, so the recent form is still untidy. The class relief and race fitness give her a genuine chance in this line-up, but she must turn market respect into a far stronger finish.
1
EITA INOUE
WHITE, PURPLE FIVE STARS, White cap
2 66 SOUTH ONE
JOJI TANAKA
2YO  BAY  COLT 56.0KG

Settled rearward and made no impression when sixth at Kochi last start, beaten out of sight behind Nine Smile at generous odds. His debut was also plain, finishing sixth behind Three Going after giving ground late. He did finish ahead of Energy Lumiere a couple of weeks ago, but the margins remain a major concern and this looks more a minor-money hope than a winning profile.
2
MEGUMI JONO
GREEN, WHITE RIGHT SASH, GREEN SLEEVES, WHITE DOUBLE ARMBAND, Black cap
3 58 KEY SONG
HIROKI NISHIYAMA
2YO  BAY  FILLY 55.0KG

Was last at Kochi last start and never competitive, beaten out of sight behind Nine Smile after having too much ground to make up. Her debut fifth behind Three Going was similarly weak through the line, so there is no obvious hidden excuse in the form. The third-up set-up and class relief are positives, but she needs a much better effort to turn those into a placing.
3
MASAYOSHI YAMASAKI
RED, YELLOW DIAMOND BAND, RED SLEEVES, YELLOW STRIPE, Red cap
4 47x SHISHIMARU
S BEPPU
2YO  CHESTNUT  COLT 56.0KG

Returns from a three-month break after finishing seventh at Kochi behind Sansan Kic, beaten nine and a half lengths when unable to make headway from a difficult position. His debut fourth behind Rikea Samba came in a small field when he was near the top of an open market, so there has been some regard for him. Fresh is the query, but his exposed margins read competitively for this race.
4
SHINJO KAISEI
LIGHT BLUE , WHITE HALVED , WHITE DIAMOND BAND , WHITE SLEEVES, Blue cap
5 5 VENITIENNE
YUJI UCHIKOSHI
2YO  BAY  FILLY 55.0KG

Was safely held on debut at Kochi, finishing fifth behind Bear Magnum and tailed off after starting favourite in a small field. That is a clear query rather than a run to gloss over, but she has only had one start and now gets a quick chance to correct it second-up. With Minoru Miyagawa and Yuji Uchikoshi both carrying strong local profiles, she still sets up as one of the main chances.
5
MINORU MIYAGAWA
BLACK,WHITE FIVE STARS, Yellow cap
6 504 B DASH
TERUYUKI KUNISAWA
2YO  CHESTNUT  COLT 56.0KG

Improved his finishing position to fourth at Kochi last start, but the margin still reads poorly as he finished a distant last behind Nine Smile at long odds. The run prior was worse again, last behind Smith Barows and well beaten by 23 lengths after being unwanted in the market. He is unplaced from three starts at this track and distance, so a major lift is required.
6
NAOKI KIMURA
RED, BLACK ZIGZAG CHEVRON, RED SLEEVES, BLUE DOUBLE ARMBAND, Green cap
