KOCHI   20 Sep 2026

GOING:

Race 6 1400m

Track:

Nothing Better has good early speed and can set a decent tempo. EXTRA NOTE (9) continued the strong form when winning at Kochi last week by two lengths, with the market support into a very short odds-on quote matching the strength of the performance. His Kochi record is excellent and the Okamura pairing has also produced two wins and two places from four starts, so he deserves top billing despite the minor note that he is yet to win at the distance. DANON BLOSSOM (4) is the clear danger on quality of recent form, having finished third in a 3yo+ C2 at Sonoda, beaten just over half a length after closing off strongly. She has an excellent 1400m profile and brings stronger consistency than most. NOTHING BETTER (5) is still a maiden after 18 starts, which tempers the winning view, but her repeated placings give her claims for the multiples. WATERHOUSE (6) resumes after winning at Kochi by a neck and has already won at the track, making him the value runner among the main hopes if he returns in similar order.

Finished fourth at Kochi last start behind Liberty Flame, but was beaten over 10 lengths after settling rearward and never really threatening. His previous fourth behind Snow Cruise was more competitive, beaten five and a half lengths at generous odds. Two wins from four starts at this distance keep him in the place mix, though he needs to find more late drive to trouble the main hopes.

Dropped out to finish last at Kochi last start, never competitive and beaten out of sight after settling rearward. The run prior was also plain, eighth behind Token Kumi when beaten just over nine lengths despite being near the top of an open market. A class drop and distance suitability help only so much; the current form leaves him with a sizeable task.

Was sent out favourite at Saga last start in a 3yo+ COND but finished last behind Rommet, beaten over 14 lengths and very poor late. The earlier third at Kochi behind Gran Orca was a better result, although still beaten nine lengths at long odds. He is third-up with the winning rider back, but the 1400m record is a genuine query for win purposes.

Returns from a two-month freshening after a strong third in a 3yo+ C2 at Sonoda, beaten just over half a length by Working Asset after finishing off well as favourite. The run prior was only fair when seventh in a 4yo+ C2, but her broader profile is sound: two wins and five places from nine starts at 1400m and a high placing rate this season. She rates as the main threat to the favourite.

Was fifth at Kochi last start behind Liberty Flame, beaten over 13 lengths after tracking the speed despite being near the top of betting. Her Saga second before that was better, though she was still beaten five lengths as a well-supported favourite. Placed two from three at this track and distance, but the 18-start maiden record keeps her more in the minor-money bracket.

Returns from a three-month break after winning at Kochi last start, scoring by a neck from Garden Planner when near the top of an open market. That was a clear lift on his previous sixth over 800m, where he lacked a change of gears late. One win from two starts at Kochi is a useful pointer, though first-up off the break he appeals more as a genuine place hope than a standout.

Made some improvement when fifth at Kochi last start behind Dixie Vogue, beaten five lengths, but he was unwanted in the market and only fair through the line. Two back he was beaten over 17 lengths after conceding a huge start and never entering the race. A past Kochi win is a small positive, yet his one win from 71 starts underlines the task.

Finished eighth at Kochi last start behind Liberty Flame, beaten over 16 lengths after getting miles back and making no impression. The previous run told a similar story when sixth behind Himekamino Itadaki, beaten over 14 lengths after again settling too far away. Her maiden record after 51 starts and current form both point to others having stronger claims.

Won well at Kochi last week, beating Garden Planner by two lengths after being heavily supported into very short odds-on territory. That backed up a solid second behind Dixie Vogue at the same track, and his Kochi record now reads two wins and two places from four starts. The distance is the only small query, but his current form and rider combination make him the runner to beat.
