KOCHI   20 Sep 2026

GOING:

Race 5 1400m

Track:

Strong tempo primarily from Scandinavia, Collier D'or and Shinringenkai over Carte Maitresse and Forte Rosa. SCANDINAVIA (6) is hard to knock after extending her winning sequence with a neck success at Kanazawa, having previously won by six lengths at Kochi and beaten Shinringenkai and Carte Maitresse in the process. Her unbeaten seven-from-seven record at this venue and perfect eight-from-eight partnership with Eita Inoue make her the horse to beat. SHINRINGENKAI (3) is the main danger on consistency, with five wins and two placings from seven starts at this track and distance and a half-length second to Lyra Bond last week. CARTE MAITRESSE (9) arrives off a sharp three-length 1600m win over Derma Azrael and is suited coming back in trip, though past clashes leave her with a little to find on Scandinavia. STELLA MATUTINA (5) was beaten a nose over 1600m here and beat Galapagos two back, so she is the reliable place-and-upside runner if the top pair leave the door open.

Finished fourth in a 3yo+ C2 here last start, beaten five and a half lengths by I Blanco after lacking the dash to quicken when required. Her previous sixth in a 3yo+ C1 was much the same margin, and both runs came when the market was cautious. Two wins and two places from ten starts at the Kochi 1400m are a useful counterpoint, but she needs to find sharper acceleration.

Was safely held in a 3yo+ C2 here last start, finishing eighth and beaten just under ten lengths by Logan Pass after being swamped late. The Saga win prior was much better, leading throughout and beating Nothing Better by five lengths, but she has no wins and one placing from eight starts at this track and distance. The gap between her best and latest form is the concern.

Keeps holding strong form and was only beaten half a length by Lyra Bond here last week after giving a sight and being collared late. She was also beaten half a length at Sonoda two back when well supported, so the form pattern is solid. Five wins and two places from seven starts at this track and distance is compelling, and with Shuji Akaoka's strong record aboard she looks a genuine winning threat.

Returns from a two-month break following a last placing in a 3yo+ B3 here, beaten just over nine lengths by Yukino Maria when unwanted in the market. Two back she was second last behind Scandinavia, beaten over 17 lengths, and the rivals note says several of today's better chances have had her measure. Her older record is sound, but recent form must improve sharply.

Just missed in a 3yo+ B4 over 1600m here last week, beaten a nose by Galapagos after being pipped right on the line. That followed a 3yo+ COND win over the same horse here, so her current form is easy to trust. Coming back to 1400m is a relevant change, but three wins and three places from eleven starts at the Kochi 1400m keep her firmly in the minor-money mix.

Returns off five weeks after winning a 3yo+ COND at Kanazawa by a neck from Holy Grail, again racing in a manner that underlined her winning habit. The previous Kochi run was a six-length win over Forte Rosa at short odds, and she has seven wins from seven starts at this venue. With two wins from three at the distance and Eita Inoue unbeaten on her, she is the runner the others must reach.

Returns from a two-month break after finishing third here behind Copano Hampton, beaten four lengths after leading and being run down late. She had won a 3yo+ C1 here the start before, beating Rose Bowl by a length and a half when near the top of betting. The freshen-up is the unknown, but recent Kochi form gives her a realistic place profile if she resumes in similar order.

Improved slightly when fifth in a 3yo+ C3 here last start, beaten three and a half lengths by Win Imeru, but she was unwanted in betting and settled too far back to threaten. Her previous ninth behind Copano Hampton was a heavy defeat at long odds. No wins from nine starts at this track and distance tells the story: she needs more than a minor lift.

Made a decisive return to winning form in a 3yo+ B2 over 1600m here last week, beating Derma Azrael by three lengths after quickening clear. Two back she was third at big odds over the same trip, so the improvement is genuine. Coming back to 1400m is a plus on the setup, though a prior defeat by Scandinavia leaves her needing another strong performance to win.

Has been beaten over 14 lengths and over 13 lengths at her past two starts, both over 1600m here, and there was no clear excuse in either run. The drop back to 1400m and the return to a winning distance are positives, while Seiya Tatara has placed often enough with her. Even so, the recent margins are too severe to treat her as a winning hope.

Returns from a three-month break after running second to Scandinavia at Kochi, beaten six lengths when lacking the turn of foot to make a serious challenge. Her previous Sonoda third over 820m was honest enough at big odds, and one win plus four placings from eight starts at this distance adds support. She can run well fresh, but the top selection has already exposed the winning gap.

Disappointed as a market fancy last start, finishing ninth in a 3yo+ C2 here and beaten over 15 lengths by Misterio after racing prominently and coming under pressure late. The start prior was far better, a length-and-a-half second to Meisho Mikawa in a 3yo+ C1. Her Kochi 1400m record is useful, but she must rebound from a very plain latest effort.
