GOING:

Race 2 1750m

Track:

Abundant pace from G T Reina, Five Roses and Lot Emperor vying for the lead with Tassel on their backs. G T REINA (3) is in fine form with three successive wins over 1400m at this track, the last two as a very short odds-on favourite. The rise to 1750m is the obvious new question, but her six wins and four places from ten starts at the track give her a clear form edge. FIVE ROSES (1) resumes from an eight-month break after beating Popping Berry by four lengths here, and her Saga record keeps her right in calculations despite also stepping beyond 1400m. TASSEL (9) must rebound from a plain 900m run, yet his prior third in 3yo+ COND company and solid track record make him a danger. DRAGON BUSTER (4) brings consistent placing form, including a length-and-a-half third behind Egg Hunt, and looks the best of the closers for minor money if the longer trip suits.
1 22x1x FIVE ROSES
YUKITO SANKODA
6YO  BAY  MARE 54.0KG

Returns from a lengthy eight-month spell after a sharp 1400m win at Saga, where she beat Popping Berry by four lengths as a well-supported favourite. Her previous second behind Moon Pass Gold also reads well, having led and been run down late. The first look at 1750m is the query, but a six-win track record gives her a strong platform fresh.

Yuno
Worked into the money at generous odds last week, finishing second in a 3yo+ C2 over 1400m at Saga and beaten a length by Only Love. She had been seventh behind Ascot Roman the run prior, though she still picked up through the straight. The rise to 1750m is a genuine test, but she is race fit and has enough consistency with Shinsuke Ishikawa to press for a placing.

Toshihiko Tabata
Put the race away decisively at Saga last start, beating June Nadeshiko by eight lengths over 1400m after being backed into very short odds-on territory. That followed another eight-length win here over the same trip, and her six wins with four places from ten Saga starts underline the strength of the profile. The step to 1750m is the only real query, but she is clearly the horse they have to beat.

Yasumitsu Ota
Closed off impressively when third behind Egg Hunt over 1400m at Saga, beaten a length and a half at generous odds. He had also been third behind Ascot Roman before that, working home evenly from off the speed. The extra ground remains unproven, yet his recent pattern is honest enough to make him a realistic place chance rather than a clear winning threat.

HIROFUMI WATANABE

Recent Funabashi form is hard to recommend, finishing second last behind Balance The Books in a 3yo+ C2 over 1600m after conceding a huge start and never threatening. She was last behind Kitasan Riser the run prior and beaten 29 lengths. Her Saga 1750m record is a genuine positive, but she must turn form around sharply.

Masaaki Kumeta
Was safely held first-up at Saga in a 3yo+ COND over 1400m, finishing seventh and beaten over 16 lengths by Slaylar at long odds. The previous run was also plain when last behind Oreno Aiba in 3yo+ B5 company. He owns a solid overall winning record, but six unplaced runs at this distance make the 1750m a major obstacle.

KATSUTOSHI TESHIMA

Masako Yano
Improved third-up when second behind G T Jin over 1400m at Saga, beaten a length at long odds on good ground. That was a better effort than his previous seventh behind Egg Hunt, where he gave away a big start and was never a factor. His local record has depth, but the rise to 1750m is not yet proven and keeps him in the cautious bracket.

HIROFUMI WATANABE

Toshihiko Tabata
Finished eighth behind Egg Hunt over 1400m at Saga last start, beaten over 10 lengths after giving away too much ground and never getting into the race. She had been last over 900m before that, again unable to make any impression from well back. Tassel had her measure recently, and she needs a far sharper finish to trouble these.
8
TORU TAKEYOSHI
RED, YELLOW STARS, Orange cap
9 71530 TASSEL
MASANORI MASHIMA
4YO  BAY  HORSE 56.0KG
Big Red Farm
Returns from a six-week freshening after a disappointing 900m run at Saga, where he was near the top of betting but finished second last behind Takeno Okan. His prior third behind Sodermanland in a 3yo+ COND over 1400m was more relevant, as he kept finding to get into the frame. With Manato Hida back and a sound track record, he can rebound if the 1750m proves within range.

10 23235 LOT EMPEROR
MOTONORI MASHIMA
4YO  BAY  HORSE 53.0KG
Yoshihiro Kunitake
Returns from a five-week let-up after finishing fifth behind Ascot Roman at Saga, beaten five and a half lengths despite being near the top of betting. He had earlier run third in 3yo+ B6 company and has a strong five-win, six-place record from 16 starts overall. He has placed twice from four at this track and distance, so the profile is more place than win.
