SONODA   11 Sep 2026

GOING:

Race 4 1400m

Track:

Civic Charles and Win View can pave the way. CIVIC CHARLES (2) sets the standard with a dominant last-start win at Sonoda and a strong record at this track and distance, while the return of Sota Hijikata keeps the profile very solid. FUKUNO FEAR NONE (3) is the clearest danger after winning by seven lengths first-up, and her 1400m Sonoda record gives that performance genuine weight. INTERLUDE (7) brings winning form from 1230m and maps forward, though the 1400m asks another question. TIARA AZUL (4) also won last start, but did so over 820m at big odds and has more to prove at the trip. WIN VIEW (1) can use the inside draw and early speed to hold a place chance.
1 333x1 WIN VIEW
KAZUHIRO CHONAN
4YO  CHESTNUT  FILLY 53.0KG
Naonobu Saito
Returns from a six-week freshening after leading throughout over 820m at Sonoda and beating Seiun Superior by two lengths in a 3yo+ C3. She was near the top of betting there and has a neat record at this track, but the move to 1400m is the obvious query after a fair third over 1230m behind Kirakirari in 4yo+ C2 company. Barrier one helps her use that speed, though she profiles more as a place chance than a clear winning edge.

2 11x61 CIVIC CHARLES
MOTOHIRO KOMA
5YO  BAY  HORSE 57.0KG
Kumiko Kunieda
Produced the right response last start, winning a 3yo+ C3 at Sonoda by four lengths after being heavily supported into very short odds-on territory. His prior sixth as a prohibitive favourite was plain, but the overall record is hard to ignore: six wins and one place from twelve starts at this track and distance, plus a strong association with Sota Hijikata. Third-up and back in winning form, he is a major player.
2
SOTA HIJIKATA
BLUE, SKY BLUE DIAMOND CHECKS, WHITE SLEEVES, BLUE ARMBANDS, Black cap
3 115x1 FUKUNO FEAR NONE
IKKOO TANAKA
4YO  BAY  FILLY 55.0KG
Yuko Fukushima
Resumed in excellent style at Sonoda, settling rearward before putting away Yazan by seven lengths in a 3yo+ C3 on fast ground. That win was expected by the market, but she delivered with authority and her three wins from five starts at this track and distance read well for this. The fifth behind Kawakita Hoku Lea before the break was only fair, yet her second-up platform is compelling.
3
KANTA INOUE
BLACK, RED FIVE STARS, WHITE ARMBANDS, Red cap
4 09x01 TIARA AZUL
Seiichi Terachi
3YO  BAY  FILLY 55.0KG

Improved sharply at Sonoda last start, tracking the lead and edging Petite Fleche by a head over 820m at big odds in a 3yo+ C3. That was a clear turnaround from her previous run, when she was last and well beaten behind Teikei Holomua after giving away a big start. The rise to 1400m is a genuine test, especially with no placing from four tries at this track and distance, so place claims look safer.
4
TOYOKAZU TANO
YELLOW, CERISE RIGHT SASH, Blue cap
5 80894 WHITE JADE
MICHIO TANAKA
3YO  GREY  COLT 52.0KG

Worked into fourth at Sonoda last start in a 3yo+ C2, beaten just under five lengths by Macho Sasupo after settling handy and starting an outside chance in betting. That was an improvement on the Nagoya ninth when beaten over 14 lengths at long odds. The light weight is some help and he has placed twice at the distance, but a maiden record from 14 starts leaves him with plenty to find.

SHIOTSU RINA

6 93187 VIE HOMMAGE
TETSUHARU KURIBAYASHI
8YO  BAY  HORSE 57.0KG
Normandy Thoroughbred Racing Co. Ltd.
Has been well held at both recent Sonoda runs, finishing seventh behind Resplendor last start when beaten over 18 lengths after coming under pressure late. The start prior was no better, falling away to eighth behind Piena Felice and beaten over 14 lengths. His long-term track-and-distance record gives a small each-way thread, but recent form says conditions need to fall his way.
6
YAMAMOTOYA TAIZO
WHITE, MEDIUM PURPLE STRIPES, MEDIUM PURPLE SLEEVES, WHITE ARMBANDS, Green cap
7 x9741 INTERLUDE
Nishikawa Shinya
5YO  CHESTNUT  MARE 55.0KG

Led and extended comfortably at Sonoda last start, beating Katsu by a length and a half over 1230m after being backed into very short odds-on territory. She had been close enough the run before when fourth behind Moisture, beaten just under two lengths, so the form has built steadily. The 1400m is still the point to prove, but her on-pace pattern and strong jockey record keep her right in the contest.
