Lucullan has good early speed and can set a decent tempo.
LUCULLAN (4) has been narrowly beaten as a warm favourite in both of his starts this prep, and was less than a length from the winner on a heavy track at Whanganui 15 days ago. He tries 1400m for the first time, and that may be the key to him going one better. KOSTA (5) has been freshened up since his last start third at Trentham, and he has looked above-average on occasions thus far in his career. If ready, he can give this a shake. Each way. DOLLYBIRD (8) was a tad disappointing at Otaki last start, following on from some good form prior. She can settle a couple of pairs closer this time from the pole position, and she can bounce straight back into the money here. SEVENAYES (2) was an upset winner at Otaki 3 starts back, but his form on either side of that run has only been fair. If he is in the right mood, then he is up to winning this. WHISKEY N' RYE (6) won fresh up for the Myers stable, and then was set aside after failing to fire at this next start. Don't risk him in this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Kosta each way.
