No surprise if the first starters played a key role in the tempo of the race with little speed on paper. LICENSE TO EXCITE (11) was nudged out at Colac and Warrnambool before finding the grade a bit rich at Kyneton. Peaks now off a 35-day freshen and this grade suits better. Has the winkers applied for the first time and she rates to go close. REGAL ASCEND (12) returned from a spell beaten 3.5 lengths over 1200m at Moe. Settled back and can sit closer today. Also has the winkers on for the first time and John Allen is a key jockey engagement replacing the 2kg apprentice. GLOWSHIFT (5) debuts for the Laurie yard and has been well educated. Draws inside and has the blinkers on. A bold run is likely in a winnable race. KING KALAKAUA (6) debuts for the Maher yard with the blinkers on. Draws wide but has had plenty of jumpouts and should be running into it. SUGGESTED PLAY: Going with License To Excite.
