Gattina can work over from a wide alley to lead. STUDENT OF WAR (6) was an overdue maiden winner here on the poly surface just over 3 weeks ago when getting in the final strides to score by a short head. He is a progressive gelding who, now that the penny has dropped, should go on to win more races. On top. JACK CRABB (1) made up plenty of late ground when finishing runner-up in his South Island debut for a new stable. He was given 7 weeks ago to get over that effort, so the drop back from 1600m to 1400m should not bother him. With luck, he can go one better here. LIFE OF RILEY (11) had excuses at Wingatui last start when making her run too wide on the final bend there. She is better than that, and she is worth another chance. Each way. THE HARES EARS (8) has held her form nicely since winning her maiden at long odds 3 starts back at Wingatui. A wet track is no problem, and she can produce another honest effort here. MIRAQUA (13) fought on well here on the poly track 10 days ago when fifth. Stick with him on an each-way basis. SUGGESTED PLAY: Student Of War can take the next step immediately.
