Pace looks strong with Pony Up pressing on from an outside draw, joining A Summer Fling. WESTBOUND (2) was back to 1400m last start in the Raconteur and closed strongly to miss by 1.6L in a strong performance. Out to the mile now is a big tick and the wide draw doesn't hurt with his racing pattern. A bigger field this time helps and with more tempo on offer, he can storm home over the top. VATICAN STORM (3) sat wide in the Raconteur and was too good there when close to the speed, winning in a photo finish. The wider draw this time is a query, but he won the main lead-up and his figures continue to improve with every run. Can raise the bar again. HOT AND HIGH (12) couldn't fend off Vatican Storm last start and steps out to the mile for the first time today. She did jump a $1.60 there and that holds plenty of weight, though the extra trip now is a bit of a query. WESTERN ACE (7) is going better than his form suggests and can explode third-up and out in distance. LIKE CLOCKWORK (15) is building nicely now out in distance and won't be far away. SUGGESTED PLAY: Westbound gets the nod in the Guineas.
