Moderate tempo with Speedy Smartie leading the way and a few others keeping in touch. SUPER EAGLE (6) ran on far too late fresh up here just over 7 weeks ago and should have finished closer than fifth after being blocked for a run at a vital stage. He has had a tune-up trial since then and will welcome Zac Purton back to the saddle, who has never missed a cheque on him in 3 starts. He has a superior gate and can take this out. LUCKY MAN (1) bounced back into form with a fast finishing second by a nose here 4 weeks ago over 1400m. He has a tougher gate this time, but only needs the gaps to come at the right time, to have the last say this time. SPEEDY SMARTIE (11) had a torrid trip last start and has been back to the trials since then. He is good enough on his day, and he is not out of this. FAIRY HORSE (2) is dropping down in class for this and was not far away last time out. Each way claims.
