Dyed-in-the-wool stayer who is racing well but finding that win elusive. Great chance to break through this time. THE DECEMBRIST (8) stepped up to the mile for the first time last start and battled on well to hold third at Moe. Lines up for only the fifth time and is ready to get out to this sort of distance. SMART MOVES (7) led and boxed on well for fourth last time out over 2200m at Sale. That was his first try over a bit of ground so there is plenty of improvement to come. ATE IRON (1) has been in the money at three of six runs including last start over today's journey at Echuca. Sure to be thereabouts again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Gaelic Kiwi to out-stay them.
