Plenty of pressure on from the outset with some speedy types engaged in the good-sized field. MAIN DEFENDER (1) is a very good gelding resuming from a spell and he won this race last year. Top hoop Gavin Lerena is in the saddle and he is poised to retain his title. PURPLE PITCHER (2) fought on bravely when finishing third in the Grade 1 HKJC Champions Cup. He returns from a spell for his first run of the season and is good enough to take this out. GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE (9) ran a fair solid race for fifth in the Grade 1 Gold Challenge last time. He cops a wide gate but Craig Zackey knows him well and should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle. Each way value. GLADATORIAN (4) hails from the visiting Stuart Ferrie stable. He won a good race over 1500m at Scottsville last time out and if all went well with his travels, he should be involved at the finish. Watch closely.
