Reasonable tempo with a few going forward, headed by Barcelo. NATOYA (5) has only 2 wins from 16 starts but was usually thereabouts when racing in NSW. She ran on too late as the favourite when making her Queensland debut from the Sears stable, and the extra 200m will make all the difference, so follow your money. EMPRESS OF JAPAN (7) also boasts a solid record without winning often, and she has an excuse for a modest effort here 4 weeks ago. Her recent trial says she has taken no harm, and we think she can bounce straight back into the money here. BARCELO (6) continued her steady improvement when finishing runner-up at Ipswich last start and she is peaking at the right time for this. Another bold performance looks likely. TECHNA (8) can be forgiven for her latest Doomben effort, as she drops back to a more suitable distance, and she could surprise at attractive odds. RIEZ SOUVENT (3) is a progressive gelding backing up after a comfortable Ipswich victory 3 weeks ago. This is not much harder, so stick with him. SUGGESTED PLAY: Barcelo each-way.
