Despite the small field Chieftain, Lovegrass and Golden Chandelier can set a decent tempo. CHIEFTAIN (1) showed good speed over this distance at the Vaal last time before getting outrun late by a handy type and finishing second. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and he should be the one to beat. KING OF VENUS (3) won a good race in his last start over 1100m at the Vaal. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this distance. He is likely to race on the pace and may be hard to peg back. ZANTHAR (5) ran a fair race over 1200m on the Inside course here last start. He has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. He gets the services of 4kg claiming apprentice Varun Jodhee which will assist his cause. Stick with him. ARILENA (6) lacked extra late over this distance on the Inside course here last time out. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should bounce straight back into the money.
