GOING: S(5)

ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP 1100m

Track: SOFT 5   Clear (Max: 18)   Rail: +5m 1000m- Winning post, +3m Remainder. (Pent: 5.03)

Plenty of first starters engaged which makes it tricky to map, but we can assume a keen tempo. KLOCKE (1) firmed from $2.35 to $2.05 on debut at Canterbury a fortnight ago but missed the win narrowly after coming from just off the pace on the corner. Drops back from 1250m to 1100m which is a curious move but there was enough merit in that last performance to suggest he can take this out. DUBIOUS EXPRESS (2) saw them all when the field swung for home then he let down impressively to be beaten just a length on debut last time out over 900m at Newcastle. Had a quiet trial at Randwick since that run 32 days ago. Will be hard to hold out over an extra 200m today. SPAIN (10) is a Snitzel colt on debut for the Waterhouse/Bott stable. Two recent trials have been pleasing. Will go forward and give a great sight. Written By debutant I'M RELEVANT (4) has trialled five times going back to September. Shows glimpses of ability. Keep an eye on the betting. Waller saddles up OMOLONG (7) for the first time. Recent trial winner at Rosehill. Respect any positive market moves. SUGGESTED PLAY: Klocke to break through.

Was well-supported at debut, made ground from midfield; 2nd of 9 at Canterbury 2yo C&G Mdn-Sw on June 8 over 1250m, slow going head behind The Machine Gun carrying 56kg at $2.05. Coming back in trip is a query but he still makes plenty of appeal.

Trialled on June 12 at Randwick over 1050m and finished sixth. Shows ability and expected to improve. Better for that hit-out and looks a threat.
