Blonde Star is likely to take charge and set a decent tempo. Maher-trained ZIRYAB (8) led but failed to place over 2500m in the Pakenham Cup and then came off the freshen and got caught wide here over 2200m in the Summer Cup. Further excused given he was found to have a high heart rate and slow recovery. Jumped a $2 favourite in that and must have pleased since. Has the numbers and tumbles in weight. Deserves another chance. BOLD SOUL (1) has been building nicely into this. His 0.8L defeat two back over 2000m in a Flemington 100 reads well, and he's sure to appreciate the step up to the staying distance. TARAMANSOUR (2) let down quickly and won the Pakenham Cup by a space. Forget Caulfield last time when he was back plenty in distance off a 42-day freshen. He'll be a lot tougher to beat today. Maher also has STRAWBERRY ROCK (4) engaged. He won this race last year and was last seen 39 days ago when beaten less than 2L over 2800m in the Bagot Handicap. It's a bit of an ask, but he has to be respected. WINEGLASS BAY (7) is a local well in the mix. SUGGESTED PLAY: Sticking with Ziryab.
