Not a great deal of early speed and Starward may be the one that takes it up. NORDIC STAR (3) returned from an eight-month spell with a respectable fourth over 1000m at Wyong last start. Better placed over this sort of trip and will find today's opposition far easier. Nicely placed to open the account. PRIZE WITNESS (5) is back for a second campaign after a five-month lay-off. Finished just behind the placegetters in her two runs last prep, the latest over 1400m here. Two trials in February should have her up to the mark. FROGMORE (6) has settled back in the field and failed to be competitive in three runs this prep, all at the provincials over shorter journeys. Can improve in this more appealing scenario. O'BRITZELLE (7) is back after a 19-week break. Was in the market at all three runs in the maiden campaign but failed to deliver. Expecting a bit more this time in work. STARWARD (9) has had plenty of chances but might improve with a couple of gear tinkers. SUGGESTED PLAY: Nordic Star on top in a mediocre maiden.
