Plenty of pace with Shamal and William Barows up front, pressured by Tagano Beauty and Costa Nova. Terrific race with all eyes on the return of Group One winner COSTA NOVA (7). Scored at his latest appearance over 1600m in the G1 February Stakes at Tokyo Dirt on February 23. Has a very good first-up record - had also scored first up last prep - and he kicks off as one of the top dirt performers in Japan. These days that equates to being one of the top dirt performers on the planet. High expectations! LORD FONS (10) started last campaign impressively when in the placings over 1400m at Tokyo right behind Costa Nova and that ties him right in as a threat again. SHAMAL (5) is progressing well this preparation. Opened with a fourth at Nagoya two starts back then scored by 4 lengths last time out after being prominent at the turn over 1400m at Kochi. Meets some better types this time but have to like how he is going. WILLIAM BAROWS (3) was safely held at the only appearance last prep in the G1 February Stakes behind Costa Nova but he is a good horse and must be respected.
