GOING: S(5)

PEEL VALLEY TYRES MAIDEN PLATE 1600m

Track: Soft 5   Clouds (Max: 18)   Rail: +3m 1000m-350m, True Remainder .

The pace looks even at best given a lack of early speed. NORTHFIRE (3) made up plenty of ground to finish second last time out over 1400m at Moree. Winkers go on so expect him to race a little closer over this longer trip. Big chance to break through on his home track. OAKFIELD NEVADA (7) improved significantly last time out when facing the starter for just the second time, coming from last on the bend to finish fifth over 1412m at Taree. Blinkers had an impact that day and the extra trip this time might bring about further improvement. 15-start maiden PINERO (8) raced handy but lacked a change of gears over 1400m at Moree last start. Raced here once over the mile and filled a placing. Must be considered. MEMPHIS BLUE (2) has been disappointing but the six-day back-up suggests he might have more to offer now. WHITE WAVES (9) floundered in heavy going last time. Worth another chance on firmer footing. SUGGESTED PLAY: Northfire to win.
