NORM BEVAN MEMORIAL MAIDEN STEEPLECHASE 4000m
RED NED (3) was beaten by a head when finishing second as the favourite at his steeplechase debut at Te Rapa 2 weeks ago, and he should go one better in this. SAINT BERNARD (1) was runner-up here 17 days ago over steeples, and even though he can have a mind of his own, he should still go close to taking this out. SUPER FLASH (2) had an excuse when making an early, poor jump here last time out, and his effort for second at Whanganui is the best guide to use. Stick with him on an each-way basis. SKAW VALLEY (6) can mix his jumping, but on his day, he is more than capable of winning a race like this. If he doesn't need another run, then he can figure in the top 3. FAKE NEWS (4) could be suited to racing over the bigger fences, and he is not the worst at odds in this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Red Ned is the one to beat. |

STEPHANIE MURRAY MORTGAGES MAIDEN HURDLES 2500m
CHESTER BOY (4) was an overdue winner on the flat in his penultimate start at New Plymouth over 1400m before making his hurdling debut and being pulled up on the journey at Te Rapa 2 weeks ago. He will be better for it, and he can make amends. NIGHTREIGN (1) has some ability in this role, and he will be peaking third up from a spell. He is in the right stable to be a quick improver in this. Stick with him. LITTLE THIEF (5) makes his jumping debut from the powerful Myers stable, and he is sure to be well-schooled. Follow any positive market moves. CARIGNAN (2) finished third here when making his hurdling debut, and then battled away on the flat at Te Aroha 6 days ago. His first win in this role is not far away. AFFORDABLE (3) won at Hawera 2 starts back, and then won a jumping trial prior to his modest effort in a tougher field on the flat at Te Rapa 2 weeks ago. He is worth another chance in this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Nightreign each way. |

HONOURING WEST COAST 2500m
KICK ON (1) tried hard when finishing second as a warm favourite here 17 days ago. He is a very accomplished performer on the flat, and with that experience under his belt, he can set the record straight with a win here. DOCTOR LIVINGSTONE (2) got a long way back and ran on strongly to finish fourth here last start when having his first start in this role. He is peaking at the right time, and he is good enough to take this out. Each way. SCOTTY (3) has been showing some promise in this jumping role, and he will be having his third run over hurdles. He is nicely placed after a 3kg claim, and he should pick up his first win at short notice. BENJAMIN (4) resumes from a spell for his hurdle debut, and he is in the right stable to make an immediate impact. SANDY LANE (7) makes her jumping debut, and a recent hurdle trial indicates that she has some talent in this role. She is in good hands, and can't be risked at some top 4 value. SUGGESTED PLAY: Doctor Livingstone each way. |

TRENTHAM SUPPORTERS GROUP WELLINGTON HURDLES 3200m
HAPPY STAR (2) was too strong here last start over 2500m, and an extra 700m third up won't pose too much of a problem for this classy hurdler. On top again. BILLY BOY (3) was no match for the top pick when finishing third last time out in the same race, and he has cruised home to win a hurdle trial since then. He is good enough to turn the tables in this. DICTATION (1) improved from a modest effort fresh up to finish third over hurdles at Te Rapa 2 weeks ago. He is as good as any when at his best, and he should be hard to hold out in this. TUTIN CANS (6) put it all together when scoring an impressive maiden hurdle win here last start. He steps up in class, but can still measure up in the small field. Stick with him. ROC UP RALPH (4) is very capable in this role, having won twice, and his last run at Te Rapa was out of character. He is worth another chance in this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Billy Boy will be hard to beat. |

HAPPY RETIREMENT LEADERBOARD 2200m
Looks to be plenty of pace with Four Square Pete and Air Dancer battling for the lead.
SO CALL ME (2) kept up his strong jumping record with a game effort for second here just over 2 weeks ago, and he still retains plenty of dash to be very competitive at amateur riders' level on the flat. He looks to be the one to beat here. AIR DANCER (4) was a comfortable winner at Whanganui nearly 7 weeks ago at BM65 level, and has won a trial over hurdles since then. He has been placed in his only start on this course, and he can figure in the top 3 again. KEEN ON BUBBLES (6) has been building her fitness, and she will be nearing her peak fourth up from a spell. Each way value. ZIGGY KHAN (7) ran on powerfully late for second at Te Aroha 6 days ago, and she would only need to repeat that performance to be hard to beat here. Stick with her. JACKS PRIDE (8) resumes from a spell without any trials. Trust that she is fit, and include her in all top 4 combos to be safe. SUGGESTED PLAY: So Call Me can win this. |

136TH GRANT PLUMBING WELLINGTON STEEPLECHASE 4900m
NEVER LOOK BACK (5) has put it all together this season, and made it 2 jumping wins in a row when scoring here by more than a length just over 2 weeks ago. He is a nippy hurdler, and with his pace on the flat, he has to be respected again, with our only query being the extra 900m on offer here. NEDWIN (1) has been a fantastic jumper for a long time, and he showed that he has not lost any of his dash when winning by a nose in a very tough effort at Te Rapa 2 weeks ago. He lumps an extra 4kg, but can repeat the dose. SMUG (2) was so brave when finishing third behind the second pick last time out, and he will be right at his peak for this. He has unfinished business on this track after being disqualified here last season when winning. Stick with him. BRUCIE (7) fought on bravely here, second up from a spell, and he is also at his peak fitness. He can mix his jumping, but his best will take him close again. Each way. JUSTICE (4) Is well worth including in all top 4 combos to be safe. SUGGESTED PLAY: Smug each-way. |

AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB NORTH ISLAND CHALLENGE STAKES 1200m
Moderate pace from Farravallo taking it up with Tavis Court and Spencer on his back.
SINBIN (4) has needed both of her runs back from a spell, and she is at her best over this trip on this track. She is nicely placed at the weights in the small field, and she can have the last say in this. FARRAVALLO (3) resumes from a spell, and he usually comes to hand quickly. A heavy track is no issue, and with the aid of a kilo claim, he is ready to give this a shake. TOLSTOY (5) dug deep and fought on bravely for second in a similar small field here just over 2 weeks ago. He normally improves with further racing, and he can go one better in this. SPENCER (1) blew out of condition fresh up at Te Rapa 8 weeks ago, and has been given plenty of time to get over that run. He has won 3 times on this course and should be a quick improver. Include. TAVIS COURT (2) might need the run fresh up, but the small field will suit him, and SOTIRIO (6) has to also be a chance due to the field size. Include. SUGGESTED PLAY: Sinbin to win. |

BILL TITO BOOK REPAIR SPECIALIST 1400m
They look to roll along early with Ryders Legacy and Trainwreck leading the charge.
RYDERS LEGACY (2) ended his initial prep on a winning note when scoring easily on his home track at New Plymouth in January. He would have attended his local jump-outs, so he won't lack fitness, and he has the scope to take this out fresh. EXPLOSIVE IMPACT (4) is an honest stablemate of the top pick who is also resuming from a spell. A wide draw may not be an issue on a heavy track, and she will be ready to rumble. Check the market. WHISKEY N' RYE (1) will be peaking third up, and he slides down in class for this assignment. He has won on this course in the past, and he is a definite top 4 chance here. BLACK BETTY (8) has had a tune-up trial in preparation for her fresh-up run. Her only win came here, and depending on her condition in the yard, she is worth including in all top 4 combos. SILENT APPLAUSE (6) got back too far off a wide gate at Otaki 6 weeks ago, and has been given plenty of time to get over that run. She has a superior draw this time and can make amends. SUGGESTED PLAY: Whiskey N' Rye each way. |

AZTECH ENGINEERING 1500m
Expecting a moderate pace headed by Urenui and Bradman.
BRADMAN (2) showed his preference for this track when winning easily here over 1500m last time out. This field is no harder, and an extra 2kg should not prevent him from going close to winning again. BELARDO BOY (1) has been below his best since a big run for second at Whanganui 2 weeks ago. The wetter the better for this quality veteran, and he can take this out. BENEFACTOR (5) showed his first sign of form this prep when finishing second to the top pick last time out. She is better off at the weights and can turn the tables here. CHASE (3) has needed both of her starts back from a spell, and he should now be ready to show some form on a track that he knows well. Each way value. URENUI (4) fought on well and only peaked late, fresh up at Whanganui a fortnight ago, and he is usually much better second up from a spell. Stick with him on an each-way basis. BOOMTOWN BOY (7) is also nearing his peak fitness, so don't risk him. Include. SUGGESTED PLAY: Urenui each way |
