ANZAC DAY LEST WE FORGET RATING 75 2600m
There should be a bit of pressure with Platinum Goddess and Complicate pressing forward in advance of Miss Enzed and Jaffa. IMPERATIVE (8) has come of age over a middle distance, and the manner in which she finished her last run off over 2147m at Riverton 3 weeks ago says she will have no problem with 2600m. She drops 2.5kg and can repeat. HENRY THOMAS (2) won over this trip here by a short-head 5 weeks ago, and he cops an extra 3kg for that win. He is lightly tried, and with more to come, he will be hard to hold out again. AVORIAZ (9) ran on too late over 2000m here a fortnight ago, and this is the sort of trip she is looking for. A wide gate won't matter as she gets back, and she is good enough to take this out. UNLEASH THE BEAST (7) sustained a long run to score over 2200m at Ashburton last time out, and he will be looking to turn this into a true staying test as well. Stick with him. MISS ENZED (4) has been close up in her last 3 starts, and she won't have any problem with a heavy track. She tries 2600m for the first time, and can go one better. SUGGESTED PLAY: Avoriaz each way. |

POLYTRACK RACING SEASON STARTS 30 APRIL RATING 65 1800m
The Arctic Monkey, An Morrighan and Warrior Of War can set up a solid gallop. JAEGER (2) was a good thing beaten as the favourite at Whanganui last week over a mile, and the extra furlong is ideal. A wide gate can be an advantage on a heavy track, and if this race, along with the travel, has not come too soon for him, then he is the one to beat. KIWI MAGIC (9) was given no chance last time out with a passive early ride, and he is much better than that. He can settle closer from the pole position, and he is more than capable of taking this out. OAKSDEEL (3) has found it hard to win another race, but will have the services of Bruno Queiroz this time, which can make all the difference. Each way claims. TAIMATE STAAR (7) was an overdue maiden winner at Ashburton in her penultimate start, and then was a brave third there last time out. She is an honest type, with top 3 claims again. VENDABELLE (11) gets out to a suitable trip for her third start in the South Island, and stepping up from 1600m to 1800m is the key this time. Stick with her. Can win. SUGGESTED PLAY: Kiwi Magic each way. |

GAVELHOUSE.COM CELEBRATING 10 YEARS RATING 75 1000m
Charm Manhattan, Spartan and Grove Street to match motors but there will be other pressure. MI BELLA (10) has been freshened up since winning on a heavy track here just over 7 weeks ago, and she has the draw to receive the run of the race. She drops 2.5kg, and she looks well placed to repeat the dose. BETTER SHARED (3) has won all of her 3 starts this prep, including the Gore Guineas in her penultimate start. Dropping back to 1000m should not be an issue, and she can continue on her winning way here. QUEEN OF SHEBA (13) has yet to run a bad race in 5 starts. She was beaten by a nose in the Gore Guineas, and she should be very competitive again. EASTANDWEST (9) was a beaten favourite in his first run at this level at Riverton nearly 3 weeks ago, after a big win by a nose there before that. He loves the wet and will be charging home late in this. Stick with him. TORONTO (7) is a very handy Central Districts-trained gelding who has trialled up nicely since finishing a game fourth at Ellerslie on New Year's Day. Each way. SUGGESTED PLAY: Queen Of Sheba each way. |

DAPHNE BANNAN MEMORIAL GREAT EASTER STAKES 1400m
Strong tempo, primarily from Spot On Time and Graeme John. IRON HAWK (14) really announced himself with a brace of impressive wins, including his last start 2 weeks ago by nearly 3 weeks ago. He jumps up sharply in class, but drops 7kg, which will help negate his wide gate. The hat-trick beckons. TROBRIAND (8) is a very consistent gelding who is right up to this company, and with Bruno Queiroz back in the saddle, he should run his usual honest race, especially with just 53.5kg to carry. WITZ END (3) got back too far in a strong field here 2 weeks ago over 1600m, and he failed to run on as expected. His record over 1400m is much better, and he can make amends immediately. TEXAS DOLLY (12) caught the eye with a solid late run to finish fourth here a fortnight ago over 1200m, The extra 200m can help, and drawing wide could be an advantage by this time of the day. Include her in all top 4 combos. SPOT ON TIME (1) needed his first run back from a spell here 2 weeks ago, and he has not missed a cheque in 3 starts second up in the past. Include. SUGGESTED PLAY: Witz End each way. |

NEW ZEALAND BLOODSTOCK WARSTEP STAKES 2000m
Solid pace likely with Hayworth prominent along with Cashla Bay crossing from an outside gate. PERLINO (3) is a very progressive filly who was good enough to finish third as the favourite in a strong edition of the NZB Stakes here a fortnight ago over 1600m. She will try 2000m for the first time, but she still looks to be the one to beat. Follow your money. CASHLA BAY (1) was in the wrong part of the track when finishing well behind the top pick in the same race last time out. She was a big winner off the front when resuming before that most recent run, and despite a wide gate, she can bounce straight back into the money here. CIRCUS TRIX (4) has turned a corner in her last couple of starts, including a brave second in the Manawatu Classic at Trentham 4 weeks ago. Each way claims again. CAPACI (5) is heading back into her best form, and she will be peaking third up from a spell. Include in all top 4 combos. HELLO HAYLEY (2) has been unable to run on in her last couple of starts, but if the tempo is genuine, then she can figure in the top 4 at good odds in this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Perlino can win this. |

COCA-COLA CANTERBURY GOLD CUP 2000m
From the inside gate Riviera Rebel has the dash to be in the leading division, with Vamos and Opawa Jack applying plenty of pressure. SMOOTH OPERATOR (7) made the most of a perfect run from just off the pace to score a comfortable win as the favourite at Riverton last time out, 3 weeks ago. He cops an extra 4kg for that victory, but from a good gate, he will go close to repeating the dose. WHAT YOU WISH FOR (5) tried hard when finishing a game fifth in the Awapuni Gold Cup at Trentham 4 weeks ago. He loves a wet track and has not missed a cheque in 3 starts over this trip, including 2 wins. Stick with him. SIR ALBERT (1) ran a much better race for second here a fortnight ago over 1600m, dashing home late to be beaten by a head. He won't want the track to be too wet, and he can run another honest race here. OPAWA JACK (2) has been racing well in the Central Districts, and if he can bring that sort of form in this, then he is a must for all combinations. RIVIERA REBEL (6) dug deep for second behind the top pick last time out. He has the right draw to take up the lead here, and he can go one better. SUGGESTED PLAY: Opawa Jack and Riviera Rebel at each-way value. |

RACECOURSE HOTEL & MOTOR LODGE RATING 65 1400m
Solid tempo likely from Bodleian and Elegant Explosive. BRUTAL RIFF (3) cruised home to win his debut and then put in a big effort for second here 2 weeks ago. He is backing up fairly quickly for his third start, which means he is thriving at home, and he is the one to beat for us in this. BODLEIAN (1) has followed on from his strong fresh win at Ascot Park in January with a couple of strong efforts for second, including his last start here just over 7 weeks ago. He benefits from a 3kg claim, and if the gap between runs is not too much, then he can figure in the top 3 again. LIFE OF RILEY (15) was racing too keenly for some reason as the favourite here 2 weeks ago, finishing near the rear of the field. She is backing up more quickly here, and she is good enough to bounce straight back into the money. Don't drop her yet. NUNCIO (5) will find this easier than his last run here 2 weeks ago, and he is worth including in all top 4 combos. KOPUTAROA (19) resumes from a spell, and has had a recent trial to help him get ready. Include to be safe. SUGGESTED PLAY: Brutal Riff can win this. |
