GOING:

Race 3 1400m

Track:

Moderate tempo with Rainbow Tree leading the way. RAINBOW TREE (5) sets the standard in a race where exposed form is still developing. Her only run was a fourth over 900m at Kanazawa, beaten just under five lengths by Sanei Vesta after being near the top of an open market, and that reads more solidly than most of these have shown. The move to 1400m is the obvious question, but she has the best overall profile. FAMOUS POKKE (4) is the main danger after closing off from a hopeless position on debut when fourth behind Be The First, albeit beaten over 16 lengths. AENOKOTO (3) has to improve sharply from a well-held debut, yet the class drop and second-up scenario give her some place appeal. M T MORTON (2) has been beaten big margins at both starts, but race fitness and the leading track jockey give him a small edge over the lesser exposed improvers if he can finish off with more purpose.

Hiromitsu Horiba
2YO  CHESTNUT  COLT 56.0KG

Makes his race debut with limited public evidence to assess, so the market may be instructive. Hiromitsu Horiba is yet to produce a debut winner from the supplied sample, although the trainer-sire pairing has placed nine times from 11 starts and half-brother Sai And Ko won on debut at Ohi over 1200m. That gives some pedigree interest, but he still has to show race-day substance before being promoted too high.

KENSHIN UOZUMI

2 67 M T MORTON
SHIGERU SATO
2YO  GREY  COLT 56.0KG

Failed to run on when seventh at Kanazawa last start, beaten over 20 lengths by Kimito Hikare after being only an outside chance in the betting. His debut here was also plain, finishing a distant last behind Stars Of Sawa. Race fitness third-up, a class drop and Tatsuya Nakajima taking the ride are positives, but he needs to find a much stronger closing effort to turn that into a placing.

TATSUYA NAKAJIMA
NAVY, WHITE STRIPES, GOLD SLEEVES, Black cap
3 6 AENOKOTO
SEIJI SUKITA
2YO  CHESTNUT  FILLY 55.0KG

Finished well held on debut at Kanazawa a fortnight ago, with big odds telling the story and no real headway made behind Be The First. She also came out behind Famous Pokke in that same form line, so the bare result asks for improvement. The class drop and second-up benefit keep her in the minor-money conversation, but she must settle into the race earlier and finish off more truly.

AKIHIRO YOSHIDA
MEDIUM BLUE, RED CROSSED SASHES, WHITE SLEEVES, RED STRIPE, Red cap
4 4 FAMOUS POKKE
SHIGERU SATO
2YO  GREY  COLT 56.0KG

Produced the most encouraging debut of the recent Kanazawa runners, finishing fourth behind Be The First after looking out of contention before closing off strongly. The margin, beaten over 16 lengths, keeps the win case in perspective, and he was at generous odds on the day. Even so, that late work suggests there is improvement to come second-up, making him one of the clearer winning chances.

HIROHISA TACHI
BLACK, RED CROSSED SASHES, YELLOW SLEEVES, BLACK STRIPE, Blue cap
5 4x RAINBOW TREE
KOJI FUJITA
2YO  DK B  FILLY 55.0KG

Returns from a three-month break after a sound debut fourth over 900m at Kanazawa, beaten just under five lengths by Sanei Vesta when near the top of an open market. She travelled behind the leaders, held her position to the turn and picked up well enough late. The rise to 1400m is the fresh query, but that debut has more merit than most here and her handy racing style should give Taiga Kurihara options.

TAIGA KURIHARA
NAVY, WHITE FIVE STARS, WHITE SLEEVES , RED ARMBANDS, Yellow cap
6 709 FRIENDLY GRIN
YUTAKA KUROKI
2YO  DK B  COLT 56.0KG

Returns from a five-week freshening after finishing second last at Mombetsu over 1100m, beaten over 15 lengths by Victor Kic at big odds. The run prior was no better, as he finished last over 1000m and made no impression from back in the field. A class drop and extra race fitness are noted, but the step to 1400m is another concern and he has plenty to turn around.

KOGA HIROTAKA
GREEN, BLACK HALVED, BLACK DIAMOND BAND, BLACK SLEEVES, GREEN ARMBAND, COLLAR, Green cap
7 7x88 ACE CAT
AKIHIRO KAWAZOE
2YO  DK B  FILLY 55.0KG

Has been safely held in two runs this campaign, most recently second last at Kanazawa when beaten over 13 lengths by Love Me Beauty and unwanted in the market. She was also last behind Kimito Hikare the run prior after conceding a huge start. Race fitness and a class drop help at the margins, but she needs a cleaner, sharper performance before she becomes more than a rough place hope.
7
CHIHIRO KANEKO
BLACK, RED VEE, WHITE SLEEVES, RED ARMBANDS, Orange cap
8 7 ROYAL RUN
AKIHIRO KAWAZOE
2YO  BAY  FILLY 55.0KG

Was well beaten on debut at Kanazawa, finishing seventh behind Be The First after settling rearward and making no impression late. She was unwanted in the market and also finished behind Famous Pokke in that race, which gives the form line a plain look. Second-up improvement is possible for a lightly raced filly, but she needs to show a much stronger response under pressure.
