Reasonable tempo with a few going forward, headed by Makhachev. MASAKARI (1) peaks and is busting to win. Went close this track/trip on a heavy track as favourite before a nose defeat at Echuca over 1400m on a good surface. Finds a winnable assignment with an ounce of luck from the awkward gate. COCO DIOR (2) draws outside the above but is also knocking on the door. Missed a whisker this trip at Kembla Grange and then raced a $2.3 favourite there following and didn't have the best of it on the heavy surface. CARRAMAR (6) went well enough here and at Echuca following to have a chance. MIDNIGHT EAGLE (9) was beaten 1.5L this track/distance on the heavy before disappointing at Towong from a wide barrier. Maps better today and has a key gear switch. In the mix as well. SUGGESTED PLAY: Going with Masakari.
