Many of these step out for the first time so a genuine tempo is expected. LACEY LUCK (2) did herself no favours by missing the kick at New Plymouth 6 days ago, and assuming she can cope with the quick backup, she would only have to begin evenly to be a winning threat in this. BRUTIFUL LASS (1) tried hard when finishing second by half-a-length at Otaki on a heavy track there a fortnight ago. She is long overdue for a win, and she can get the job done here. STAR DONNA (3) caught the eye with a strong finishing third on debut off a slow pace. She handles bad ground with no trouble, and with some natural improvement second up, she will be hard to hold out. FLEURS STAR (5) makes her debut from the powerful Allan Sharrock stable who would have had her competing at the local jump-outs held in the Taranaki region. Follow the market leads. AFFAIRE D'AMOUR (4) has won 2 of her 3 public trials, and her last couple have been over 800m. She is bred to want more ground, but in this field, she can make a winning debut.
