THE TARADALE CLUB MAIDEN 1400m
Solid tempo anticipated with Asher and Tick Tock Tessa leading the way. HARD ROCK CAFE (1) has continued to improve this prep, and hit the line nicely when runner-up by less than a length here 3 weeks ago. Dropping back to 1400m won't bother him, and he can go one better. TICK TOCK TESSA (9) resumes from a spell without a trial, but she is sure to be ready with this race being over 1400m. Michael McNab can offset the wide gate, and she is expected to run boldly fresh up. Check the market moves. ASHER (10) finished a game fourth on debut at Whanganui on a heavy track over 1200m a fortnight ago. She has upside, and will improve with more racing can win. SCUTALONG (5) only battled fresh up at Taupo nearly 4 weeks ago, and may have found the heavy track too testing that day. He is worth another chance here. ALL TOO BOLD (2) has been racing in tougher company than this in his last couple of starts, and a form reversal is on the cards here, especially with Craig Grylls picking up the ride. SUGGESTED PLAY: All Too Bold each way. |

LIVAMOL CLASSIC RACEDAY - 10 OCTOBER 1200m
Pace strong with Zorero and Deep Pursuit leading with Faultless nearby. DEEP PURSUIT (7) has made an encouraging start to the season, and his effort for third here 3 weeks ago was sound enough. He is peaking third up, and should be right in the finish again. FAULTLESS (4) set the pace, and only folded up late after giving a good kick on the home turn. His only win has been when second up, and he can be a quick improver here. Each way value. JELLY ROLL (3) ran a better race than it looks on paper at Te Aroha 9-days ago, and we like him as a top 4 hope. ZORERO (2) resumes from a spell on his home track and from a good gate, he is expected to be very hard to hold out. ZENZERO GIRL (10) comes right into this on a wet track, and she is capable of figuring in the top 4 again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Jelly Roll each way value. |

VET SERVICES EAST COAST CHALLENGE WILDCARD 1200m
Expecting State Secret to find the lead but there will be plenty of pressure over the sprint course. SINGLETARY (9) stuck to his guns bravely last start in the Whanganui Guineas a fortnight ago, finishing third on a heavy track. He is at his peak now, and a firmer surface would be in his favour, so with a drop in weight, he can take this out, especially with Lisa Allpress in the saddle. STARTLES (11) has been kept very busy this prep, and she was a brave runner-up 8-days ago at Woodville. The visors are added to the blinkers, and if she has not over the top, then she can go one better. WILL (3) should have won both of his starts in his initial prep, and this 5YO gelding has plenty to offer. He resumes from a spell, and is likely to race his way though the grades this season. HERVEY BAY (1) set the pace fresh up at Ellerslie and only went down late, finishing third. That was his first run since arriving from Hong Kong, and he will only be sharper this time. Follow your money. STATE SECRET (10) franked a trial win with a gutsy debut win by a head at Hawera. She can repeat the dose. SUGGESTED PLAY: Singletary can win, and Will is one to follow this season. |

BETTA INSPECT IT NZ PUNTER OF THE YEAR 1400m
Came True, Illuminated Miss and He's All Fabulous can set the pace. CAME TRUE (4) was back in form when finishing a brave runner-up at New Plymouth on a testing heavy track 4 weeks ago. He can make full use of his good draw, and should be among the hardest to beat again. AIM UP (3) let down with a strong finishing burst to win comfortably by almost a length at Te Aroha 9 days ago. He can secure a cosy run from a good gate, and there is no reason why he can't measure up here as well. Each way. CAPOTE (5) enjoyed the step up from 1200m to 1500m when finishing third at Te Rapa 3 weeks ago. He is likely to race on near the early speed, and another honest effort is on the cards. SUPER WRAITH (1) is proving to be hard to catch, but he has been hard to peg when allowed to dictate the pace in front. He has not missed a cheque in both of his starts here, and can provide some each-way value. SUGGESTED PLAY: Came True can win this. |

HERETAUNGA HASTINGS MILE 1600m
Perfect Pete and Keating are both expected to press forward and take it up. TULSA KING (2) was running on nicely before peaking on his effort at the 200m mark in the run home. He will be at his peak now, and with a class edge over his rivals, he should go very close to taking this out. MARANELLO (3) has been racing well off tough draws recently, and he cops another wide gate here as well. Backing up quickly is no concern, and in a slightly easier assignment, he can figure in the top 3. PACIFIC PRINCESS (10) ended her last campaign with a big win at Whanganui over a middle distance. She resumes from a spell, and has won fresh up in the past. Follow any market moves. SUBIACO (4) will be fit after starting this prep with 3 runs on the Cambridge poly track, and he should be a top 4 hope in this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Tulsa King each way. |

HOWDEN MILE 1600m
Cocobill has good early speed and can set a decent tempo. PEGASUS (4) tried hard when finishing second in a strong field at Cambridge-synthetic just over 5 weeks ago. He had won 2 on the bounce over this trip on turf before that, and despite copping a wide draw, he can figure in the top 3 again. EXIT LEFT (3) just battled fresh up here 3 weeks ago over an unsuitable 1200m, and he also needed the run. He will be spot on for a mile, and he is expected to finish a lot closer this time. PROCUL BOY (1) has been narrowly beaten by a couple of smart types in both of his runs this prep, and he can take this out, even on a firmer surface. PSYCLONE (2) is a local mare mare with ability resuming from a spell. She was third in a trial last month, and is not without some top 4 claims. SUGGESTED PLAY: Halo's Boy can win again. |

TIMBERSPAN SIR COLIN MEADS TROPHY 1200m
Despite the small field Justin Case, Phillyjean and King Of The Air can set a strong tempo. JUSTIN CASE (1) beat a couple of 4-horse fields as a juvenile, and then was a brave fourth in the G1 Sistema Stakes at Ellerslie prior to having a well-earned spell. A recent trial will have him ready to rumble fresh up. KING OF THE AIR (2) ran on too late over 970m at Cambridge just over 2 weeks ago, and he would have taken a lot of improvement out of that performance. A wide gate can make is tricky early on, but he has the scope to play a part in the finish here at good value. SHAMBO JACK (6) motored home late when finishing third fresh up at Te Rapa 3 weeks ago. He has plenty of talent, and is an each-way hope from a superior gate here. PHILLYJEAN (9) resumed with a big run at Listed level at Taupo nearly 4 weeks ago, and surely her first win is not far away. Stick with her. STATE OF VALOUR (5) strips fitter second up, and is worth including. SUGGESTED PLAY: Shambo Jack each way. |

DENNIS PYKE MEMORIAL OPEN 1200m
A solid tempo on the cards with Afternoon Siesta taking charge. CHECKMATE (7) tackled some strong fields in all 4 starts last prep, and was good enough to finish runner-up in the G2 Rich Hill Mile at Ellerslie. He usually takes a run to hit his straps, but has trialled up well, and he can give this a big shake. AFTERNOON SIESTA (3) is a lightly tried 7YO mare who won the Cuddle Stakes at Trentham at only her sixth career start. The sting out of the ground will suit her, and she is also right in this with a big winning chance. AMAZING SON (13) has progressed quickly through the grades, and he will have a fitness edge over his rivals. He should again be competitive as he is so tough. ROMANOFF (9) is a G1 winning 3YO who is resuming from a spell. He has win the latest of a couple of tune-up trials, and he cannot be taken lightly, despite the wide draw. SUGGESTED PLAY: Romanoff at each way value fresh up in a good field. |

COLLIERS HAWKE'S BAY STAYERS 2100m
Solid tempo with The Finnster, Weneedashock and Dictation going hard, closely attended by Coney Island. ARKSEY (7) is closing on on another win with 3 second-place finishes in a row, and if the track comes up as heavy, he will be very hard to beat. A firmer surface will also not be too much of a problem for him either. CONEY ISLAND (4) is another consistent gelding who has held his form on wet tracks through the winter. He has a good draw, and is worth including in all top 4 combos again. SUBTLE IMAGE (1) carried his top recent poly track form through to the turf when finishing runner-up at Whanganui a fortnight ago. He has thrived since joining the Didham yard, and he can produce yet another honest effort here. THE FINNSTER (5) led all the way at Whanganui last start, and he will be trying to do the same here. Keep safe. SUGGESTED PLAY: Arksey can win this. |
