NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:35 THE GONG SPRING CARNIVAL SUPER MAIDEN PLATE 1600m
A solid tempo on the cards with Hot Luci heading them off. We kick off the new racing season and ZELJKO (8) looks a good way to start the card. She's placed in all four runs to date including three this time in, beaten 1.5 lengths over this route last time out in what looked a deeper maiden. Sets up nicely from the inside draw and should go close. HOT LUCI (7) made good improvement second up jumping sharply in trip, giving a sight at Wyong over this trip. She should be fitter now and will take plenty of catching with Hyeronimus booked. LE CHOCOLAT (2) has been solid in two runs back from a spell, not far away in a dash home at Newcastle second up. Ready to peak now getting to a mile. POUR BENN (4) is a gelding by Ace High on debut who kicks off at a good trip. His latest trial was solid and he can run well. FAYE RUNAWAY (6) wasn't far away fresh and has claims.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Zeljko.
2 01:10 NSW JOCKEYS ASSOCIATION CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1600m
Expecting Arduous to take up the lead at a genuine tempo. ARDUOUS (2) broke through for a dominant maiden win when last seen at Goulburn, relishing the heavy ground to race away and score by 3.3 lengths. This looks another suitable race and with similar conditions expected she goes on top. SUPER SUGOI (4) is knocking on the door, close up in similar races at his past two starts. This looks a suitable race and he should take holding out. CASABLANCA EXPRESS (1) has been okay in two runs back from a spell, beaten 3.5 lengths here last week. Fitter again and can improve into the finish. THINK ROMANCE (8) ran quite well fresh at Hawkesbury before an even effort last time at Grafton. She has placed on heavy ground before and could improve here. LUCKY BAY (6) is a place chance.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Arduous to win.
3 01:50 JOCKEYS CELEBRATION DAY MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300m
The race lacks early speed so doubt they will go too hard. Just the four post-scratchings and even with a full field it would've been hard to go past NINJA (3) who was heavily supported to win a much stronger maiden on debut at Randwick Kensington, finishing a close-up third on that occasion. He'd trialled very well leading into that and he won't even need to improve to win this, hence the very short quote this morning. MENSHEVIK (6) was solid on resumption at Canterbury, getting through the heavy ground fairly well there. Should be fitter now and draws well. Looks the danger. FAST 'N' FANCY (9) didn't do much on debut at big odds but just edges LUCKY MONKEY (10) for that third position.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Ninja clearly on top.
4 02:25 BLUESTONE BUILDING GROUP MIDWAY MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300m
Without a great deal of early pace evident Spiritualistic may lead the way over All Saints. SPIRITUALISTIC (8) was disappointing over this track and distance at her second outing having run an encouraging race on debut at Nowra. She had excuses there and can bounce back strongly with a good map. ALL SAINTS (4) appreciated the rise in trip here last time out when boxing on for third and she should be afforded every chance again here. Some query on heavy ground but finds the right race otherwise. RIDGEBACK (1) is a gelding by All Too Hard on debut for the O'Rourke yard. He's won one of three trials leading in, that hit out coming on heavy ground. Can figure. TULOU (13) can be an improver second up.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Spiritualistic on top.
5 03:05 ENERGY MANAGEMENT SERVICES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000m
Prosperous Dragon to find the front in the small field. Another race with just four left. TELLING (4) resumes. He won at very short odds first up last time in and can trail the speed here from the inside gate. Two trials have been solid enough and this looks a nice race to kick off in. Rates well. CAN'T TOUCH THIS (7) was okay fresh at Gosford and can improve off that with race fitness on her side. She won her maiden on a heavy track which is worth noting. PROSPEROUS DRAGON (2) resumes for his second campaign having shown ability in three runs last time in. He's trialled quite well and can be strong late. LIGHTLY SPARKLED (8) rounds out the quartet.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Telling to win.
6 03:40 MORETTI CONSTRUCTIONS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE 1000m
Solid tempo set by Anarchist and Charlina. Another one decimated by scratchings. JOHNNY (4) gets the nod. He's a gelding by Farnan on debut for the Snowden yard who has had plenty of trials over a number of preparations, looking good in his most recent hitout at Warwick Farm. Should take beating. ANARCHIST (18) resumes having been in the market on debut in a Listed race. Well beaten there but can be a sharp improver this time around. CHARLINA (7) has been okay in two runs to date. The debut at Hawkesbury on heavy going wasn't bad and she can figure with race fitness on her side. ZOUSARI (5) has a bit to find off a moderate debut but is in line for top four.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Johnny on top.
7 04:15 CITY MOTORS PROVINCIAL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1200m
Mafia is the probable leader in the small field. MAFIA (1) ran a strong race first up at Canterbury on heavy ground, racing on the speed and sticking on well for third. He'll strip much fitter for that and second up last campaign he was third in a much stronger race in town. Maps beautifully and should go close. LOS PADRES (4) can mix his form but did find the line strongly at Wyong last time out after getting a long way back. If he can land a touch closer here he'll be very hard to hold out. MR ROCK IT (3) is coming off a narrow win here over 1000m, scoring a tough win in BM64 grade. He doesn't win many but finds another suitable race here. CRYPTONIC (5) can run well fresh having handled wet ground in the past.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Mafia to win.
8 04:50 WESTS ILLAWARRA BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP 1400m
Exceed Perfection is the probable leader in the small field. EXCEED PERFECTION (6) should be at peak fitness third up and will be the one to catch. He was just fair at Canterbury second up but this is easier and his best form reads well despite a low winning strike rate. CLUBMAN (2) resumes. He's a sparingly raced 5yo who won easily at Scone before a spell. His trials have left plenty to be desired but if he's given market support he's firmly in the mix. CALL ME MAGNIFIQUE (11) resumes for his second campaign with a nice profile. He won well on debut at Scone last time in, then starting $3.40 to beat Clubman second time out. He was given a solid trial with Lloyd who sticks for race day. YOUR NOT THE BOSS (5) is race fit and should take beating.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Exceed Perfection to win.
