From the outside draw Aoi Merci spears to the lead and sets a slick tempo. FORLANINI (14) is back from a break of 11 weeks. Only raced once last campaign which was a narrow defeat over 1800m at Tokyo. Handy four-year-old who has only missed the placings once in seven starts. Best form puts him right in this. ELAN (7) finds it hard to win with just one success from 10 starts. Did a good job last start to finish third over 2000m at Kokura, beaten 3.5 lengths. Likely contender at the third run back. FINAL HEAT (6) found the line nicely last start to get up for third over 2000m at Chukyo, a big improvement on the other two runs this prep. Will be winding up late again. TOUCH AND MOVE (3) performed above expectations when resuming last time over 2000m at Chukyo, finishing 1.1 lengths from the winner in fourth after starting at big odds. Can play a role again.
